While we were exploring the old towns and villages in Alsace, we had rented a beautiful vacation appartment in the very heart of Ribeauvillé, one of those fairy tale towns along La Route des Vins d'Alsace. The apartment was in an old building right on the main street. Our aparment is where you can see the two rows of windows in the roof.

From the courtyard we had to climb these stairs and then some more stairs inside the building. We were greeted by this cute little gnome in front of our apartment door.
Inside it was a spacious appartment with lots of light. A large dining/living room, a well equipped kitchen, a modern bathroom plus a half one and three bedrooms that could sleep six people.
The view was nice from every room. Even though we were in the center of town we could see the vineyards stretching up the surrounding hills.
Every morning we went to the boulangerie to get fresh baguette and croissants as well as some pastries. We drank our coffee out of the huge café au lait bowls. These bowls are so wide, they can hide almost an entire face! As you can probably guess, this is for T Tuesday, so kindly hosted by Elizabeth and Bleubeard.
We usually walked around Ribeauvillé in the mornings and evenings. Just like all the other towns it is a lovely place, popular, but not quite as crowded as Riquewihr. The main street is where most people are, while side streets and alleys are almost deserted. You can see one of the three castles that are in the immediate vicinity of the town.
We discovered little corners and nooks and, of course, gates.
One evening we hiked up into the hills that are covered with vineyards. It was a steep incline, but the view (as seen in the photo at the top) was worth it. We could see as far as the Black Forest - it's here that you realize how close you are to Germany.
I would go back to this place in a heartbeat.

I am SO enjoying the villages in Alsace and the one you stayed in this week is beautiful. Such old world charm and a real French feel to it. I love the old streets, the old arches, and of course, the architecture.
Your rented apartment was quite well appointed and it looks like you had all the amenities of home. And a coffee pot, which would be high on my list of needs (not wants).

When I think of the number of wars that have been waged over this little corner of Europe it is amazing that so much of it has survived intact. It is so picturesque, I cannot imagine anyone seeing this blog not wanting to go there. Your accommodation seems perfect too, so you really had it all, Carola. You say that you would return in a heartbeat. Better not let your heart beat too loud or you will find us all trailing behind you! Hugs - David

da habt ihr aber ganz toll gewohnt! Ende dieser Woche sind wir auch wieder dort. Ich freu mich schon so. Wir waren schon so oft in Ribeauvillé, aber man entdeckt immer wieder neues. In diesen Cafe au lait-Schalen kann man fast das Gesicht waschen :-) Gerade diese Gegend des Elsass ist wunderschön! Deswegen auch meistens voll. Wir campieren wieder auf dem Camping in Riquewihr. Mitten in den Weinbergen.

Hatte noch was vergessen: seid ihr bis zur Burg hochgelaufen? Ist ein schöner Weg durch Weinberge und Wald und oben wird man mit einer grandiosen Aussicht belohnt.

Alsace has always been a place I've been interested in because of its significance in conflicts between France and Germany. It looks to have elements of both countries, and I enjoyed seeing all the beautiful photos you've posted. That's one BIG bowl of cafe au lait!
What a fabulous find, Carola. I love that apartment -- I could move in tomorrow! And the town is magical. I've always imagined Germany would look like that but then you see cities and it never does. Oh, what magic!

ich glaube dir auf Anhieb, dass du sofort an diesen Ort zurückkehren würdest – er ist wunderschön! Ribeauvillé scheint alles zu besitzen, was man für einen Traumurlaub benötigt. So viele entzückende Häuser, hachz! Und eure Ferienwohnung sieht sehr, sehr gut aus! Dass es dort nicht so überlaufen ist wie in den „berühmteren“ elsässischen Ortschaften, besitzt ebenfalls viel Charme 😊

PS: Kleidung von Gudrun Sjöden mag ich ebenfalls gerne, ich habe ein paar Stücke, eines davon habe ich sogar Secondhand bekommen :-) Mit Schuhen geht es mir ähnlich wie dir, ich habe nur wenige und die werden getragen, bis sie kaputt sind. Es ist soo schwer, bequeme Schuhe zu finden!
Du hast mich nach einem Kirschkuchenrezept gefragt - ich habe ein sehr, sehr einfaches aus dem Internet gewählt, nämlich dieses: https://www.jubeltage.at/kirschkuchen-spuckkuchen-fruechtekuchen/ Dazu müssen die Kirschen nicht entkernt werden („Spuckkuchen“) und man benötigt auch keine Waage.
