T is for Temptation

A German bakery is probably one of the most tempting places on earth. It seems there is a bakery on every other corner and they not only sell all kinds of breads and rolls but also delicious pastry and cakes. Some of them are sit-down cafés where you can have coffee and cake, and many also serve breakfast.

Rischart is a bakery and café in Munich with 17 stores all over the city. The first bakery was opened in 1883 and since then, five generations of Rischarts have made this bakery one of the most popular in Germany. Its main café is at Marienplatz and that's where we decided to have breakfast one morning.

Of course the location is superb. We could do a lot of people watching while we were waiting for our food and also observe what was going on at Neues Rathaus. At the full hour we heard the bells ringing of the churches in the vicinity. The weather was wonderful and we had the most attentive waiter you could wish for.

We got orange juice and coffee served in their very own designed Rischart mugs. Every year a new mug is designed with images of Oktoberfest. Rischart has its own "sugar castle" at Oktoberfest, called Café Kaiserschmarrn.

Kaiserschmarrn is what the Geek had for breakfast whereas Kaefer opted for the vegan breakfast and I chose the "Klassiker".

Can you see all the bread and rolls that Rischart is selling at its bakery? I always miss the variety of our healthy German bread.

And here's some of their sweet stuff - those of you who have a sweet tooth, are you tempted?

I also bought a Rischart mug - I couldn't resist their cute designs. This one is from 2015. The word "Wiesn" on top refers to Oktoberfest that takes place on the Wiesn.

You probably guessed it - since there are a couple drinks in this post I am linking to Elizabeth and Bleubeard's T Tuesday.

Everything looks so delicious! My husband would have had a hard time choosing which pastry for a treat. I am safe as I can't eat any of it with all the gluten.
Enjoyed all the photos, and love the mugs Happy T day Kathy

Oh my - you are so right- there is just nothing more tempting than a European bakery for sure!!! And I was at Marienplatz many years ago yet I still can picture it so well. Lovely photos of Munich with your daughter.

This post had me drooling Carola. What a great find. European bakeries are always fascinating with the amount of pastries and how they vary depending where you are. And the bread too. That looks like a yummy breakfast too, and even better you could watch the world go by. I enjoyed visiting from my couch, so thanks. Have a great T day. hugs-Erika

"I 🧡 Brot" is my fav.
I remember in the early days Australia had nothing but this icky white bread. Boy, when we came back to Germany you can guess where we went first!
Now they have a good variety, guess some French and Germans took over, LOL.
We stayed in one village back then cuase they had "petit pain". What a joy!
And the orange juice, hmmmm, have bought some and will put it in the freezer in a sec!
9C here. A "pain"...
To hopefully summer soon and a happy T-Day!

Even in our tiny town we have 4 bakeries, one lovelier than the other, temptation indeed! And the supermarkets these das also have good bread departments. Valerie

There is temptation oozing from every shelf here, Carola, but my weakness would be the breads! I would want to try every one. Good bread is so hard to find sometimes, and there is so much choice in this bakery I bet that several are quite wonderful. Commercial white bread is anathema to me and barely merits even being called bread. I have no idea why people buy it. It wads up in your mouth like papier maché or something. Of the three breakfasts you show, I would go for the one you had. We eat far less meat than we ever did, but lettuce for breakfast just doesn't have any appeal. Another great post showing us what's great about Munich. All the best - David

Oh, my! That bakery case! I'd need to go back many times and try everything.

I've missed T Stands for Tuesday during my staycation. It's good to be back.

Oh my gosh, look at the pastries and goodies at this German bakery. How do you choose? haha Your daughter has a sweet smile, and her long braided hair is delightful. I still braid my hair to the side from time to time. And the bread section! How wonderful to make so many different kinds of breads and sell them. One of those cinnamon rolls and coffee sounds so good. Oh, this was a post filled with bakery goodness. Thank you for sharing, Carola.

That is Temptation with a capital T! Such lovely, yummy things! Your breakfast looks so inviting. I love Kaiserschmarrn (It's similar to Dutch 'poffertjes')but Kaefer doesn't seem to go for that stuff. I couldn't live on a few green leaves....
I would have love to sit and people watch on the Marien platz. So happy for you that the weather was good.
Your mug is cute, and such a great souvenir as you had breakfast there.
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca

Been without electricity since about 6:30 pm yesterday. Never so glad to get my AC and internet back.

I am in awe of that bakery. That bread looks SO good. I miss good rye bread, which is so hard to find in my town. But I want the entire Munich cheesecake. I could eat the entire thing myself. Your daughter's breakfast looks good, but so does yours and your husband's. It must have been a great experience to sit and enjoy the surroundings and the good food. Thanks for sharing this experience with us for T this Tuesday, dear Carola.

Great food and breakfast photos! I also would have bought a mug with such a design. Mugs are good souvenirs because someone will always use them for *something*!
