For this week's Photo Art Friday we were asked to create something with one (or more) of Bonnie's textures that are available for free on her blog. Please go and check it out - her textures are awesome.
A few of her textures are more abstract, and since I had seen them the first time I wanted to use them, but never quite knew how. I'm not much wiser now, but I gave it a try with this photo, that has been on the back of my mind for quite a while. It's my favorite tree on the Schwäbische Alb (Swabian Mountains), about an hour's drive from Tübingen where I lived in Germany.
It was taken as a slide, and about two or three years ago I scanned it and saved it to my computer.
Inverted the photo
Hue/saturation adjustment
Bonnie's texture "Happy Day" at blending mode color burn at 54%
Hue/saturation adjustment
Probably you can do way more with that... but I like it the way it turned out. It gives it an "icy" feeling.

What a beautiful photograph.
I like the effect you achieved to make it abstract. It does look like an 'endless winter'!
I wonder if there is a way to remove the inversion from just the white light of the sun so that it remains in your photo art. It's a shame to have it blackened.
I'd love to try not inverting the photograph, applying the texture and blending it in Difference to see what effect you get.
Just a thought ...
So happy you are sharing your art with Photo Art Friday Carola.
Beautiful photo.
Marit , Norway.
it does look icy; I love the inverts!
Wow, I've never tried doing anything like this. You're so brave, and you get such great results.

Stunning photo Carola x
I think this is lovely and really like the effect that you have gotten. This is so much fun, and every time, you can get something totally different. Could get stuck just redoing the same photo over and over in different ways. Really nice Carola. Also, thank you for stopping by my blog!
You almost have two scenes in one here, the distant icy field and tree juxtaposed to a close-up melting ice water reflection! Lovely.
Have a nice weekend,
Sue x
Beautiful. Very interesting effect, I shall have to give that one a try if it turns out as good as yours, I'll be a happy camper.
It looks like very cool batik fabric now!
This is amazing...so beautiful. You do such wonderful things with photography.
In this case, I lean more toward the original photo
A wonderful photo and great texture work !
Have a nice weekend, Carola.
This is lovely -- the inverted photo with the blues is awesome! :)
Wonderful - both views: totally brings the viewer in.
Oooohh! I like tit, too, Carola! The blues/greens are icy. And it was a great photo to start before Photoshop, too :)
Your editing choices make your photo look like a batik. Gorgeous.

I just love textures, Carola, and learn from your experiments. Thank you. :)
