As usual (it seems) I'm late for Paint Party Friday. But at least I have something I can show, I actually finished a mixed media painting in two days and also tried my hand on charcoal again.
This girl with the giraffe neck was inspired by Jeanne Oliver's class "Creatively Made" that I am taking at the moment. I'm learning a whole lot of new stuff there, and I thoroughly enjoy it. In this mixed media painting I played with molding paste and charcoal. The texture of the molding paste - I used Golden's light molding paste - is fun, and I added some pan pastels to it after it had dried. It's on a 4x4 canvas.
Girls/women is a subject I love to paint and draw. This bird girl is made with charcoal, and I mainly did it to practice drawing faces. Then I remembered one of Lisa Wright's girl who had some color in her hair and face that you usually don't see and which I liked a lot. So I tried that and added some blue to my girl's hair and face, some red and yellow (I used pastels for that). It is interesting and I quite like the effect.
Please visit the other highly talented artists at Paint Party Friday - such a wonderful way to see some inspirational artwork.

I just spent ten minutes looking around PPF. Do they offer a theme or do you just do your own thing and then link it for others to see?
There are a lot of painters to get to know there over 90!! Wow.
Your work here is fun to see. I love the texture in the top piece.
Is some fabric involved or is it all paint?
and Your girl with the bird and her added colors is fun too!
I really like molding paste, too, although it's a little soft for long term use. I love, love, love your charcoal drawing. Her eyes are wonderful.

Hi Carola,
danke für deinen Kommentar. Ich experimentiere gerade auch mit Kohle und nächste Woche gibt's dann ein paar Kohleportraits zu sehen. :-)
Dein Mixed Media Werk sieht klasse aus. Das gezeichnete Mädchen gefällt mir ebenfalls.
I think it's unanimous — playful certainly seems to be the feeling everyone gets from your artwork. I like the girl with the bird.

Carola: Where do you get the energy? You are doing some great things. Love both pieces! Have a great week!
I LOVE this mixed media you're doing, the texture is wonderful! I've been thinking of using Amy's idea of reserving a corner of my canvas to mix colors on....but I like what you did here even better!
I love how much fun you're having with your creativity, Carola. Bravo!
Lovely girls! The charcoal (with colour) is especially charming.
I love the texture in the first painting and your charcoal sketch is wonderful!
Happy PPF!
What fun! I love how you're always stretching and growing and trying on new techniques..and learning. Very inspiring!!
Hi Carola
Sorry I haven't visited for a while, but I have been so busy with work. You have been so busy too! I LOVE your photos and the faces you are drawing are so lovely! I love this mixed media piece and your charcoal sketch is so pretty!
So good to see you back! The texture on the top piece is fabulous. I could get addicted to working with that stuff, it looks like starched lace. I really like the charcoal portrait too, the little touches of color add just the right bit of whimsy.
So much creativity going on here! Love both pieces. :-)
