Playing in My Art Journal

Finally, after a very long dry spell, I have a little bit of "art" to show you today. A couple weeks ago I played in my art journal again. The photo above was the beginning; I had arrived at that phase when I didn't really know how to go on and stepped away from it for a day or two. I find that this almost always helps . Eventually I continued working on it - I forgot to take any photos of the progress, so here is the complete page:

It's pretty obvious that I created this page while joining an online meditation retreat with Sharon Salzberg.

Both Valerie and Erika encouraged me to link to the AJJ challenge "Anything Goes".

A couple days later I started another page, but so far I haven't got beyond the "ugly" phase.

At the moment I have no idea how to go on from here, but something will eventually come up.

While trying to get some order on my work table (unsucessfully), I found this mixed media piece again that I started sometime last fall and then put it to the side because I wasn't happy and also didn't know what to do next with it. When I looked at it this time, I realized that this looks like Mount Bennett, a mountain I can see from my bedroom window. I hadn't noticed this before. This gives me a much better idea how to proceed.

This was my art part for Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date. Let's get to the food now. This is not dinner, but what I sometimes have for lunch. Four falafel (these are the frozen ones from Trader Joe's) with a ripe avocado, followed by a piece of chocolate as desert. Yummy.

Love that you can put your creations away and come back to them with fresh eyes/hands/mind.

I love to see others' art journals. I like that you that incorporated music paper in a few of your pages. Actually, I believe you did in all four. I have not had falafel before. At first glance I thought they were hush puppies. :) Avocado is really good for you. Recently I switched over to using Avocado oil for all of my cooking. It does very well, too. Have a doodletastic day!

Your lunch looks great. Avocado is a standard part of our diet so we eat that frequently, falafel not so much. I usually only eat falafel when I go to a local Lebanese restaurant, but even then not always. I should eat it more often. I enjoy it. Miriam Is not keen, however! Hugs from Ontario - David

Isn't it funny how journal pages can be in ugly stage and then with a little more work come out beautiful? They do have a life of their own, and I very much like your finished page. And I like the mountain too. I have some started pieces that I need to get back to, but then I cleaned and couldn't find them. I have now, so it is time to get back to them. Thanks for sharing these Carola. I can't wait to see how the unfinished pieces become finished. (Also, you should link your angel page up to ARt Journal JOurney for Valerie's Anything Goes challenge. Just a suggestion.) hugs-Erika

Lovely pages and I love falafels and avocados, not always together but this works.

Your art journal is beautiful. I have been tempted to start a "junk journal" as I like images and small ephemera, but no place to put it.

The falafel balls look good! I like them only when hot, just taken out of the frying pot.

Your journal pages are all fabulous! I find leaving pages for a while is helpful. I love how the first one turned out! Falafel and avocado is a good combination. Thank you for sharing at AJJ and Valerie's theme, hugs, Chrisx

Viola

Very cool art journal page, Carola! I love seeing how it looked mid-creation and then after and also getting a look at some of your other starts. Very fun that you listen to meditation at the same time - I probably need to do that too. w

That lunch looks like something I would definitely do as I had an avacado sandwich last night for dinner (after a very bad lunch of pizza again). Yum.

So glad both Valerie and Erika talked you into sharing this beauty with us at AJJ. It's quite a charming entry and really goes well with Valerie's theme at Art Journal Journey. I love the calming effect it has on me. I also see LOTS of potential with the mountains. You have started two great spreads, Carola.
