Playing with Watercolors

 

Last week I told you that I bought a set of Winsor & Newton watercolors. I didn't have much time to really try them out, but I did play around a little bit and this is my contribution to Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date this week.

I made four watercolor backgrounds with a wet on wet technique that I learned in one of those free online classes and then stamped an image over it. 


 The color combination for this card was inspired by Toni Burt's taster lesson for LifeBook 2023. The stamp is by Stampington & Company.


"Lovely as a tree" is a favorite stamp set of mine by Stampin' Up. This card pretty much turned out the way I wanted it to be.


This Da Vinci woman is another favorite stamp - this one is by Rubber Baby from 1991. I actually dabbed away most of the color after I had put it on the paper. I love the subtle look. This is for Nicole's Friday Face Off.


I love everything ocean, so there had to be a lighthouse in the mix. The stamp is by Stampendous (1989).

When I came to the US I heard for the first time of Italian sausage. I had never seen that in Italy. Over time is has become a popular item for our dinners - I love the fennel flavor. Last week I made crumbled up sweet Italian sausage with zucchini, eggplant and tomatoes (all from my garden), garlic and Italian herbs (I used the Penzey's mix "Tuscan Sunset") and a little bit of cream. It was good.

Ich muss da auch echt mal ran, aber irgendwie sind Buntstifte einfacher für mich... Nur... ich hab den ganzen "Kram"!

Das Essen sind sehr lecker aus.
Ich habe gerade deutsches Brötchen (hach, Überraschung ;-)...) mit Trüffel-Butter, auch lecker.

Both your art and your meal look beautiful.
I have a water colour painting which hangs in the bedroom. Away for work, I went into an art gallery (because I was cold) and fell in love. I have never regretted my impulse purchase (just that I couldn't stretch to another by the same artist).

I do love your watercolours, especially the trees! I'm a big fan of wet on wet. How do you like the Winsor Newton paints? I have a few tubes of their acrylics and some markers, but never tried the paints. Are they pan paints?

Your pasta dish looks so creamy and yummy! I laughed a bit when you said you'd never seen Italian sausage in Italy...I guess the Chinese feel the same way about our Chinese food! ☺

Your watercolor washes are really beautiful and they look lovely with the stamps that you used on them. Italian sausage is my favorite -- it has a little punch to it. Your dish looks just fabulous!

The flavor of Italian sausage is super, as you point out, but I've been trying to cut back on meat, especially processed meat. So I just put fennel seeds in my vegetarian spaghetti. Not the same, but it's very good! I will have to remember the Penzey's Italian herb mix. They do good spice blends.

The watercolors were lovely, Carola, and until I read your post, I thought you had also drawn the artwork. I was not aware that stamps could be so interesting especially when combined with the watercolor washes. The trees were my favorite here. Your pasta and sausage meal looked delicious and how wonderful that the vegetables were from your garden.

I love your watercolors and stamps pieces, Carola. I should buy some stamps. I had some as a teacher, but I see what cool art you made with them. I love the serene mood of the Da Vinci woman. It would make a beautiful card. Have a relaxing weekend!

I am a sucker for noodle dishes and yours sounds fantastic ... I am writing it down as soon as I finish this comment and will serve it up to my FH who is ever more of a sucker for noodle dishes than I am :) My mouth waters just thinking about it. Nice to have the fresh vegies from your garden which I won't have, but we have some good farmer's markets still so there's a chance I will be able to get most of it fresh. As for your art, I think is it all lovely. I love the softness of the backgrounds and the delicate stamped figures. You must have an amazing collection of stamps ... I am jealous :( Lovely post, Carola ...
