Unplugged
I had read on Gina's blog about National Day of Unplugging and thought what a wonderful idea that was. I'm spending so much time on the computer, especially right now because I'm taking two online classes. Over the past few weeks I've tried to limit my computer time, switching on the PC not before 2:00pm, and sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I'd rather spend the time creating and the morning is my most productive time.
So I unplugged Friday night and didn't return to the PC before this morning.
The Geek was gone the entire day - yesterday was the regional competition for Odyssey of the Mind and he served as a problem captain for the Mousemobile problem. Kaefer woke up with a sore throat and coughing, but no high temperature. After getting some medication at the pharmacy, she spent the day bundled up on the couch, reading four books (Nancy Drew) and watching the 2010 Winter Olympic Games events we had taped last year. Some of them we actually watched together and it was amazing how exciting it still was although we already knew the results! I also spent time in the studio, working on canvas for the She Art workshop and thoroughly enjoying it. It was rather pleasant outside, so I worked several hours in the yard, weeding, cutting back and watching the birds. In the evening, after the Geek had returned exhausted from an exciting day, I cooked dinner for the family and we spent a good time together. It was just a lovely day. We all need those from time to time.
Do you unplug every now and then?

So glad you had such a lovely day!
Sometimes I'm forced to unplug by a gremlin that says "You are not connected to the internet" - it makes me pull out my hair as well as the plug.
Sigh.
Glad you had a good day (had to say it again).

lovely photo Carola,
I love being alone when not at work, but this weekend my Eldest was home and his girlfriend was here too, and son the younger came out of his teenage bedroom to join in the fun so we had a lovely sociable weekend with them all and even Niall said it was nice to have a houseful again...
life unplugged is fab,
brill...
I'm happy that you enjoyed the unplugging, Carola! It sounds like you had a fun day! We had time with family and some out-of-town friends, which was great....didn't miss the computer at all. Your flower photo is lovely!
Yes I unplug every week or two for a few days. It is refreshing to know that my friends are still here when I get back.
I unplug ... every NOW and again ... I'm on FB a lot less lately cause for me it's such a time graber ... but I miss it!
I am going to unplug all next week because I am going on a little trip...but I do get a little edgy when I am away to long from the computer.
I hope you will share with us what classes you are taking...photography maybe? I think I am going to break down and get Photoshop Elements 9...I just can't seem to get anywhere with the old version.
Most of the time I unplug unintentionally! lol or If I am gone for long periods of time. This last time I was unplugged and working on putting up a new OS. Was frustrated and shut it down until I could get some tech support. Got it in and then did the same process as I broke down and got photoshop elements 9. Took forever to get it up and running. Now I need to learn how to use it.!
what a really great idea. I never thought i would become addicted to the computer, yet here i am checking in every so often to be sure i haven't missed anything. we do need to unplug more often
Beautiful post..gorgeous photo! sounds like a super lovely day..how inspiring!Shine on!

PS; thankyou for such beautiful words ..much appreciation!
your "unplugged day" sounded lovely!
I'm very familiar with Odyssey of the Mind... our local district has sent students to the world competition...
I've taken some "unplugged days" recently! your flowers are perfection!!
Wow that photo of the blossom is amazing. I love the rich color. Wishing you a good week.
Hi Carola,
This makes beautiful reading, your life, your family, you are blessed, lap it all up love!
Blossom time!
Love Sue x
Like you, I try really hard not to turn the computer on before everything that needs doing is done, sometimes awkward when a lot of admin is done on the computer. I need to grow a willpower about what I do on it! YOur weekend sounds pretty perfect to me, hope your gal is up and at it again!
Your gift to me arrived at the weekend - thanks so much, I'll have so much fun with them, you'll see them on my desk very soon! Can I send you something in return?
That is a very beautiful photo, cherry blossom? Surely not yet.
Your day sounds lovely, unplugging is a good idea now and then.
As I said, I am no artist, I use my creativity in the garden - which we occasionally open to the public - otherwise I write. Hope we will still come and take what we can get from each other's blogs.
BTW, do you have any German?
Sometimes it's just necessary to walk away! Sounds like a nice weekend...
Sounds like you had a wonderful 'unplugged' day. Hope Kaefer is feeling much better. I used to like reading Nancy Drew.
Kat :-)
Beautiful photo. Yes, I occasionally need to unplug. I decided not to take my laptop on my recent train trip although they did have wi-fi in the parlor car. I wanted to enjoy the experience and enjoy my family when I arrived for a visit. It is so easy to get lost in our own computer world.

I like unplugging now and then. Sometimes I'm just so bussy with other things. And in other times I just want to feel this different feeling of beeing fare away from the speed of time. So I want no electronic connection. But now at home in Germany not longer then two days. While traveling my unplugged time was often more than two weeks and the time on the Computer was, for sure, very little.
