This year I am working on a special project: take a photo every day of my daily life. Since 2024 is a leap year I've called it the 366 project (duh). It doesn't matter what the subject of the photo is - something from the garden or my home, something I'm doing or reading - anything that I see and think that this will be the most fitting photo for that day. When you look at the images I shot in January, you see that it's all over the place.
On January 2nd and 20th I took pictures of candles - Rain's prompt this week is candles, so I'm including them here. The top ones are the candles in our fireplace, and the ones in the second photo were lighted at our friends' home when we had dinner with them.
We need some food for Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date. Some evenings I really don't know what to cook. I usually love to cook, but there are always times when I'm less enthusiastic about it. Yesterday was one of those days when I looked into our fridge and pulled a few veggies (broccoli, zucchini and carrots), leftover spaghetti and some cream. I sautéed the veggies in some olive oil, seasoned with ancho chili pepper, added the spaghetti and finally poured some cream and let it slightly thicken - simple, but good.
We're expecting another atmospheric river (I guess the times of "normal" rain are over), so I went to the farmers market in the morning to get more fresh veggies. While I'm typing this, the rain has started and I've decided to spend the afternoon curled up with a book, a mystery by Tony Hillerman, the first one of his series featuring Navajo Nation Police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee. This is my second attempt - the first time I tried to read it is 20 years ago and somehow I couldn't get into the story back then. Let's see how what this time will look like.

Yes, we don't get heavy rains, we get atmospheric rivers. Very dramatic! Your daily photos are very pretty collected together in a collage. A collage of days. Happy February days to you.

Carola, I absolutely love your 366 project. I admire it so much that I’m going to make a note in my journal to come back to this post in December and think about putting together a plan to do a 365 for John’s Island in 2025. I’ll look forward to all of your posts between now and then. Your creativity will guide me! 😊 Your first 31 photos have already given me some ideas. I enjoyed them all and the beach photo looking through the shell is brilliant. That photo reminded me to go back and reread your comment on my December 11, Oregon Coast post. I am in total agreement with you about Cannon Beach … the nature is wonderful; the town is definitely touristy. 😊 Today I am sitting here in Seattle, mostly cloudy, rain (imagine that!), and a good day to be inside. And right here by my computer I have a wonderful handmade postcard that is so cool. Wow, thank you so much for this card! I love it! 😊 Someday, if I ever write my book about blogging, I’m going to have a chapter about the joys that come, unexpectedly, from fellow bloggers. I love your January project photos, Carola. And I totally get your feelings about making dinner. It's been rainy and cool today in Waikiki, and I have very limited food in our fridge. It was Rana tortellinis for dinner tonight along with mandarin oranges ~ lol! I hope you don't experience flooding from the atmospheric river headed your way. I loved Hillerman's book with Leaphorn and Chee. But then I have spent time in Bluff, Utah, and I am very familiar with the area he was writing about. I love this part of the USA. Hope your reading of the book is more fun this time!
Liebe Carola, deine Monatscollagen sehen sehr ansprechend und abwechslungsreich aus. Wunderschön und stimmungsvoll finde ich auch die Kerzenfotos. Eure Freunde haben eine ganz besondere Tischbeleuchtung, wie ich sie so noch nie gesehen habe. Deine "Spontan-Spaghetti" wirken gar nicht so improvisiert - aber auf jeden Fall waren sie eine tolle Resteverwertung und offenbar schmackhaft. So soll es sein! Wir machen es auch oft so, dass wir "Kühlschrank-kochen" 😊

Well your one a day pictures are fun, but my question is, how do you limit yourself to one picture a day and on the other hand, if you take more than one picture in a day, how do you know which one to include in your collage 😁 ?
That said, I love the candle pictures ... candles in the fireplace, is that a common practice? Your friend's candles are unique ... I love wick candles, but don't see them often. It is getting close to my dinner time and I found your spaghetti recipe quite tempting, in fact you made me hungry just looking at it, so I will probably go start my dinner (which, thanks to you, will probably include some kind of spaghetti dish) as soon as I finish my comment. So I suppose we will have to wait a month to see your February collage ... should be interesting :) Your posts are always enjoyable, Carola and I hope the rain doesn't become a river that washes away ... can't imagine life without you here. I also like the idea of a monthly photo project, Carola, and regrettably did not think of starting one before the first month of the year had already passed by. The use of the Scrabble tiles to spell out the month was very creative. I also liked the collage and wondered what program you used to create it The photos were a wonderful assortment.
And while I also like cooking, there are the times not so much and I too will look in the fridge to see what can be pulled together. I liked your quick meal, but while I have had veggies on hand, never any leftover pasta and normally do not keep cream in the fridge unless it's been bought for a certain meal.
Carola, I hope that you will safe from the predicted flooding as I just read several news stories about the CA downpours.
Hi Carola! ♥ When I saw the title of your post, it took me a second to realize it's a leap year lol...I like the idea of a photograph a day! I love the photo you have looking through the shell! The candles are beautiful and that pasta dish looks amazing. I'm going to share a very easy pasta dish this week. I know what you mean about sometimes not feeling like making dinner!
