Spring Walk in the Cemetery

Our oldest cemetery, the Rural Cemetery, is only a ten minute walk away from my home. It's like entering a different world with old crooked trees, birds singing, soft paths and blissful shade. It's an oasis of calm and solitude. Now in spring there is an abundance growth of grasses - everything looks fresh, but soon they will turn brown and mowed so that they don't lend fuel to future wildfires.

The old gravestones tell the history of my city, the names that are so well-known here. Many are beautifully decorated and sometimes small surprises can be found on them.

There are trees that can't keep it straight any longer, fences that broke down a long time ago nd every now and then there are flowers hiding near the gravestones.

I simply love this place. What about you - do you like to visit cemeteries?

Carola, it's been far, far too long since I've visited your blog. I'm thrilled you stopped by mine today. What a treat I encountered, too. Yes, I love to visit old cemeteries. Some of my friends think I'm crazy, but I also find solace there, too. Thanks for these incredibly beautiful photos. And thanks for dropping by, too.

Das ist ein sehr besonderer Ort mit viel Geschichte, viel Atmosphäre. Die Bilder sind fast ein bißchen romantisch. Vor allem die Bilder von den alten Bäumen gefallen mir.

Cemeteries (particularly old ones) are so often havens of peace and beauty, packed with love.
You are very lucky to have this one so close to home. Thank you for sharing its serenity and its wonders.

This is a lovely cemetery. Those trees are so unusual, old, and beautiful. And isn't that rose design pretty on the headstone? Everything looks so green, and I love that photo with the walkway. So many lives and stories told here. Yes, I like to visit cemeteries, and used to visit my Mom and Dad and other loved ones back where I used to live. My Father used to take me with him when I was a little girl to see his Mother and Father, and it all began there. He taught me to be respectful of the grounds, and it was always a peaceful place for me. These really are nice pictures, Carola.

I love cemeteries, especially older ones. You can wander and imagine the stories of those who are there -- especially the very old and very young. This is a lovely spot and I can see why you love it.

I love to visit cemeteries too! I find your post very peaceful! Usually when I go, it's like almost being in meditation. You asked about my bunnies eating my garden. Well, I am very "natural" in my gardening! LOL! In my grass, I have lots of clover and dandelions. The bunnies eat all of that and keep everything else alone. Works good! LOL! Big Hugs!

Old cemeteries are so interesting to visit. The intricate carvings and the stories my mind conjures can keep me looking for hours. It sure is green there in the spring.

Beautiful and expressive photos of your cemetery. Do relatives of those buried here still visit? It looks somewhat neglected, though you say that the names are familiar.

Yes, cemeteries are some of my favorite places to visit too. This one looks like a real treasure too, but I wondered if it is always so neglected looking or perhaps the grassy areas had not yet been trimmed back. We have several similar places here in Nashua, one of which is a favorite of mine in the fall months, because of the large old trees that are the most beautiful in autumn.

Your photos are so beautiful. You have captured the silence of the place along with the visuals. Victorians used to picnic in cemetaries. I can understand why.
