Made in Germany 36 - Advent in the Streets

Yesterday we celebrated the First of Advent.
Advent is a time that is quite important in Germany. Families have an advent wreath in their homes, and each Sunday a further candle will be lit until all four candles a glowing their beautiful warm light. The towns and cities are decorated festively. Some really go the extra mile, some have more basic little lights like this one here, in the Unterstadt ("lower town") of Tübingen. Christmas markets are making their appearances, the small local ones often much more beautiful than the big ones in Nürnberg or München. Children walk the streets singing Christmas carols. If we're lucky, there's even some snow to further add to this special atmosphere. There is Glühwein (spiced mulled wine) and gingerbread.

Wishing all of you a wonderful Advent.

This is beautiful. I wish that Christmas in the states was more spiritual and seasonal, rather than all about shopping and consuming.

This could easily be here where I live :-)

The street scene looks so inviting. I will pass on the snow but the spiced mulled wine and gingerbread would be welcome.

How I wish I could visit my daughter this year in her little German town but I'll have to be content with the lovely visit I've just had when they came here to visit me in England.
Your beautiful photo brings happy memories.
Love Jo x

I wish I'd go to every town in the World and see the lighting and Xmas markets on the streets. I love the atmosphere (if it's not too crowded) although I don't buy lots of things.
It's great to learn about Germany through your lens and words. Thank you!
