A Visit to the Nursery

My friend Jo and I spent a lovely morning together yesterday. As usual, we started out with breakfast at our favorite little cafe in Graton - they serve excellent coffee there and the scrambles are delicious as well.

The latte is served in real bowls, no paper cups here. That's the way I like it.

After that we were ready to visit one of our favorite nurseries - I know, it's only February, but we both love to garden and just wanted to "look".

The nursery always displays their stuff so nicely - our dreams could take off!

One day I will have a little pump like that in my garden!

I was good - I only bought a beautiful columbine and a small trellis that you can put into a pot. But in my head there are many colorful dreams of a beautiful garden this year. Every year I can't wait to get the garden going. The calendula are beautiful and rich right now, and since we have unusually warm weather the peonies are already on their way out of the soil. I have been trimming trees and cutting back old and dead branches and twigs, preparing the way for new growth. I feel whole when I can work in the garden and feel the soil between my fingers.

Are you a gardener? What are you planning to grow this year?

I used to be a gardener Carola, before I became an avid artist. Our gardener recently descemated our back yard growth (cut entirely back everything) and NOW I PRAY things will return. It will be like starting from scratch. those beautiful painted pots would look gorgeous back there along the fence line with bright flowers in them I could hand water.
Hum...ideas brewing. Thanks for sharing.

Yes a trip to the garden centre always lifts the spirits! I'm itching to get my pot off so I can get to the weeds they always surface first!

We have lots of great nurseries down here (near Half Moon Bay). We mainly have a few flower beds out back, plus some perennials in the border. We grow things that I very low maintenance only!
Glad the book pages arrived and that you liked them! I took a quick look for the rest of the book (I know I have it somewhere) but couldn't find it. Will keep looking.

Later this year I will have a garden after several years of living in places with no outdoor space at all. I can hardly wait! Thanks for your inspirational photos. I love the glowing colors in these photos of pots, both the glazed and the terra cotta ones.

What a fun outing you had! I love those colorful pots! Gardening is one of my favorite pastimes...I only wish I had a sunnier yard to grow vegies.

DH is the gardener at out house, my job is to admire :-) I'd have had a hard time leaving the garden center without one or two of those blue pots - for him to fill up of course.

What a fabulous shot of those poppies...wow and then the trip through the place...wonderful. I am not a gardener...too many allergies,,,although I´d like to be but summer is torture in the grasses
and living out here in the country next to all the farmer´s fields...ahhhh and the biting flies...omg....it is dangerous out here,,,remember those blasted little things:) but your images are inspiring for those of us who would love to go out and get our hands dirty....

These photos are great Carola!! I especially love the flowers. We are having a mild winter this year. I live in PA. We usually get lots of snow. This is a little freaky we have only gotten around 2inches the whole winter. These pictures make me want the spring to come. "sigh"

I'm not really a gardener, Carola, but Astrid is, so I "see" it vicariously through her. You and she are on the same page, wanting to dip yours hands into the soil. Carry on and let me enjoy the fruits of your labor. :)
