When we visited York I, of course, was looking for fences again. York, however, is a very old city that still is (though not completely) surrounded by its old city wall. For quite some distances you can walk along these walls which we did - but this will be for a later post. Today, I'm showing you the fences I found in this medieval city.
Some fences were posh, painted with gold. Others were more ornate, running along the boundaries of a churchyard, and glowing in the evening light.
Others clearly stated "keep out" (or else...).

i like your finds! not sure i'd want to paint the gold features, but i really like the old cracked textures on that last one!
These are great fences and very well photographed too I might add.
Where to begin, (all of these would fit wonderfully in a novel)- each stands out perfectly in their own way. Lovely captures.
WOW! These are all wonderful close up parts of fences. Love the peeling paintwork on the iron fence.
For sure protection and privacy were important as well as pride. These fences tell a story in themselves. You must have been in awe seeing a city that has survived so long. I look forward to seeing the posts of you walking on the walls. Wondeerful pictures, Carola ...

Quite an assortment of fences. Those old ones have innumerable layers of paint-- probably full of poisonous lead!
