Scene & Story - June 2017

One day in June I went into my garden with my macro lens and when I later looked at the pictures, this was the one that stood out immediately. The remains of a poppy - a seedpod that looks like candy cane and the stamen spreading around it. Usually the stamen are falling down as well and only the seedpod remains, beautiful in its own way. However, this special phase in the life cycle of a poppy spoke to me - simple yet elegant.

I am joining Sarah and Leรณn for Scene and Story again as I try to do every first Sunday of a month. You can find more stories here.

This is gorgeous! You always know "the" photo, the one that speaks to you. Poppies are my favorite before, during and after.

Oh how beautiful.
I love that. It reminds me of the beauty of winter. Elegant bones on display.
Thank you.

How interesting this is. I don't think I've ever noticed the "candy cane" seed pod before. Thank you for making me aware of this little treasure.

Seed pods always have such a delicate beauty about them and this one in particular with the pink and pale green stripes. Those spokes of stamens still remaining make it extra special! A lovely capture, Carola!

This really is an amazing shot and demonstrates one of the things that I love about photography and especially macro photography... the things that you can see and appreciate that you would never have noticed in the past. great capture

I've seen many poppies after the petals have fallen, but never one with the stamens intact like this. It looks like fireworks! Beautifully framed and focused.

I've never seen a poppy in that state. I thought you had manipulated an image! How pretty.

That is the most interesting flower picture I've ever seen, Carola. It does look like a peppermint candy, how unusual. And it caught my attention right away because it's the remains of a poppy, which is California's state flower.

Happy fourth of July to my new blog friend. : )

Simply lovely! I also love how the center looks like a peppermint candy. I haven't done any macro photography - it's amazing what you see when you take a close look!
