A New Kitty on the Block

I love cats, but I have never owned a cat, not even once. But I have had many cats.

They just come to me. One day they turn up at my door and decide that they like the place and come back over and over again. They are not allowed inside because the Geek has really heavy allergies against pet fur. The cats know that, however, every now and then they succeed in sneaking inside. I think they just want to show me that they are cleverer than I am - and I admit to that.

There was a beautiful ginger cat coming and staying in my yard for several years until she died last summer. It took some time until a new cat turned up - One day this April, this little white cat sat on my fence, staring into my kitchen. During that day I noticed some signs for a lost cat in our neighborhood, the description fit this little cat exactly. So when she turned up the next morning again, I called her by her name "Geeda" and she immediately came over to me, let me pick her up and just cuddled against me. I called the owners, and it turned out that she was living close by. She just has to cross a couple of backyards to reach my place.

Since that day in April she has come almost every day. She loves to hang out in my garden, sleep in a shady spot and always comes out to greet me when I step out onto the deck. She is a real cuddle cat.

She loves to chase little bugs and would wait for them, watch them - still playfully (she is still very young, a cat from the shelter), but one day it won't be playful anymore, unfortunately.

She also loves to distract me while I'm preparing classes. She knows darn well that she's not allowed on the table, but does she care? No way!

Here she hangs out in my hammock, giving me a big fat yawn.

While Ginger was still around I had found this little critter house at the thrift store, but Ginger never really liked it. Geeda, however, loves to sleep in there and find some shelter if it rains.

She is a sassy little cutie pie, but I love her. I'm so glad that there's a cat around again who is so affectionate as Geeda. I make sure not to feed her because I want her to go back to her owners who clearly love her as well - they are just not at home during the day, and Geeda definitely loves company. In the end, it's always the cat who makes the choice.

This post really really made me smile the whole time I was reading it as cats find ME TOOOOO!!! No matter where I live they find ME!!! omg she is a beauty too...look at that face and I love her markings,,they are so unusual with the white body but marked face and tail...and even blue eyes...wow! Isn´t it nice when they are such people cats too. When I lived near Cochem in the Mosel region I had TEN cats that would come for a visit and my son thought they were all OUR cats:),,,he was little then:) Here I only have two visitors...a tabby from up the street and a grey farm cat. They come,,hang out in the Wintergarten, watch me paint ,,,lounge around and then leave after a few hours. It is great having such visitors during the day. Oh, yeah, I have even had a little house for one visitor when I was up by the North Sea...you know that sea air. It can get quite windy:)

What a darling visitor for you to have, Carola. Her coloring is just exquisite!
We don't have cat visitors because we have a dog, but I often suspect our dog would like to have a cat of her own. She's a rescue dog, and I think she was raised with cats. She never barks at them when on a walk, and never wants to chase one.
I'm sure glad your cat visitor visits you during the day but has a home at night.

A friend of mine is the same - cats find her and make their home with her. She has never actually 'owned' a cat but has them stay with her until they pass on. Cool!!

Well, you've got the best of both worlds going on, Carola. You get the snuggles and they get to feed her. :)

Gorgeous cat.

Loved the shot of the kitten on the table. Good luck keeping her off of it! Ours INSISTED on jumping onto the kitchen counter. I lined the counter with empty soft drink cans with coins in them so the noise would scare her when she jumped up. Nope. Didn't faze her. Then covered counter with double-sided masking tape, thinking she wouldn't like landing on sticky stuff. Nope. She wadded it all up in a ball and handed it to us. So now we compromise. I put a little mat on the far end and she can be there and nowhere else. And 89% of the time it works. When she steps off the mat, "Abby, back on the mat." She grumbles but she returns to her spot. I look forward to seeing more of your cute little family member. --Carol Leigh

I love cats! I've had them all my life but sadly I now find myself allergic to them. Waaaa. How sweet that Geeda spends her days with you. Your photos of her are great. She's a beautiful cat and clearly she's the boss. You can see it in her eyes.
She also probably senses you haven't been feeling up to par and is making sure you are okay. Cats have that ability. I hope you are recovering quickly and all is good!

Hugs ~!

Aww, she's gorgeous!

I'm glad the two of you get to spend some quality time together, it makes a big difference having a cat around.

(...and as the owner of several cats who would get themselves adopted by other people during the day and sometimes for months at a time, thanks for letting her owners know where she was!)

Aaaaw, Carola, you have managed to get some fabby shots of 'your' Geeda, what wonderful markings she has! Obviously used to people and loves the attention - amazing isn't it, cats are the only animals I know that will take themselves off to someone elses house for the company and then back home for their food! I'm another person who is found by cats... both of mine found me in Saudi and wouldn't leave so here they are in Canada...

I guess we all know to whom we can gravitate, Carola, right?? :) That's such a sweet story...and cat.

I must have missed this post, Carola, but I'm glad it showed up on "you might also like" — Geeda is a darling cat, and looks right at home in your critter house. Lucky you, and lucky her!
