Red-Winged Blackbirds on Foggy Fences
When I visited the Laguna last week I saw an abundance of Red-winged Blackbirds. I wondered whether they already had spring feelings. The males were active, calling their unique call and spreading their wings so that the red parts were very well visible.
It was a very foggy morning, but that didn't keep them from flying around and making a lot of "noise". I actually like their call; it's very unique. You can listen to it here.
This photo is completely blurry, however, I wanted to show you what it looks like when these birds fly - isn't the red of their wings just amazing?
They were not only sitting on fence posts but also on the dried up plants in the Laguna - perfect perches for them.
Can you see the fence back there in the fog?
I'm linking up with Theresa's Good Fences over at the Run A Round Ranch.

These birds used to be quite common here but I haven't seen one for a very long time. They are so beautiful, it was nice to see that they are still thriving.
Red-winged Blackbirds looks gorgeous! Great photos! Thanks for sharing. :)
Such a stylish (and musical) charmer. I do love them - thank you.
Liebe Grüße

Beautiful shots of the redwing and the fog! Redwings are some of my favorite birds, since they have such lovely songs!
i like these shots very much! perfect harbingers of spring!
What a pretty and magical day for birding!
Aren't they just such distinct and lovely birds. The fog makes them even more interesting.
I've never seen this bird before....what a handsome fellow! Great photos!
the black and red of these birds stand out against the fog.
No such birds around here - my those bright red spots make for such visual interest in your photos!
Wow, Carola, these are great pictures of the male and he is clearly feeling his spring oats. Our males are just starting to show up at our feeders and the females will arrive in a couple of weeks ... then we will get the red wing display. I would be thrilled if I could catch them as well as you have here. What luck that they were sitting on a fence so they would fit perfectly in "Good Fences". Great job ...

We very seldom get any fog and I have never seen a red winged blackbird. Very pretty.
The 6th photo is my favorite. Very nice!
I like them...they live down near the lake in W.V., but they try to keep me from getting nice pics.

The red wing is such a beautiful bird. Sure enjoyed the photos and thank you for sharing.
Glorious!!! One of my favorite birds. Their song and colors...just too magical. And your misty scenes as backdrop are perfection.
Great captures of this special bird, Carola!
I have never seen it before - those red wings are just calling for attention :)
Happy Sunday to you,
Nina
This guy really wants the females to notice his beautiful red! :)
This reminds me that I need to get out to our local coastside trail where the redwing black birds hang out.
Just beautiful.

I love the song of the red wing blackbirds as it's one of the first to return here after the winter. They aren't here yet but I'm watching every day now for flocks of blackbirds to return. I like the foggy background in your photos. Pretty.
ohhhh what a very coool bird with that fabulous red sticking out like that.
super shots!
