Made in Germany #24 - Fairytale Town

Today I thought posting a typical German postcard motif: the town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber,
THE fairytale town in Germany.
Loved by many, visited by thousands of tourists from all around the world every year.

It is a magical little town, surrounded by its medieval wall. You can walk along this wall and almost completely walk around the old town center. This photo was taken from one of the many towers in the city wall.

Rothenburg has many nice shops, of course medieval buildings, museums, a beautiful market square, good wine and delicious food. Although it is a very touristy place it still has kept its German flair, especially in its crafts industry. You can get local food and wine, both very delicious and worth a try. One of the most fascinating places to visit is the "Medieval Crime Museum" (I wouldn't have had a chance in medieval Rothenburg with my red hair).

Did anyone of you who went to Germany visit Rothenburg? And if so, what did you think of the place?

To my great shame and regret I must admit that I have never visited this absolute gem. But there is still time.

Haven't been to Germany yet, but one of these days... and Rothenburg has got to be on the to-do list. It's perfect, with those amazing roofs, and that wonderful wall.

Carola, I am almost positive I have been there!! The name sounds so familiar.... I don't think I took very many pictures, but if I can find one I will scan it and send it to you and you can tell me if you think that's where it was! Soooo distinctly German!!

Unfortunately, we missed Rothenburg! We learned about it later, after we had already visited Germany. Looks like a beautiful place! Sorry we missed it.

Yes, yes I've been! At least several times and each time I love it more. We still talk about it to this day. It's our favorite place in Germany - or one of our favorites anyway:) Thanks for posting the photo!

We have been there twice, Carola, and we loved it so! It's so touristy but charming and our kids loved it. When I saw the photo at the top of your post, I guessed that it was Rothenburg ob der Tauber :) Thank you for the happy flood of memories!

Definitely a place I would enjoy too. I love old towns with great architecture. It might be because they remind us of the fairy-tales from our childhood??
