New WeekWord: November

Christine over at Silver Linings 4 ME has asked me to host WeekWord this week. My chosen word is NOVEMBER.

November is such a weird month. Its reputation of grey, cold and monotonous days is nothing to be proud of. For many it's the crossover from the last glorious autumn days full of color to the short days and long nights of a cold winter. A month everybody wants to get over with quickly. Really?

On the other hand, at least in the US, November provides us with one of the most beautiful holidays, Thanksgiving, a gathering of friends and family, a time of gratitude, a feast for the eye - and the belly.

It was these opposites that made me chose NOVEMBER as our WeekWord. What are your feelings about November, what does this month mean to you?

Express it on your blog and let us know about it, share it with this community by Friday, November 12th. Everybody can join in. Leave a comment to this post with your URL so that I know that you're participating. In the evening of Thursday, 11/11, I'll post a list of everybody's blog so that we can visit each other and share our thoughts.

I look forward to it - hope you do, too.

November here is not as cold as it normally is. In fact, many of the leaves have not yet dropped. So, it's hard for me to not like November, at least this year. I sure love your photos. You are THE BEST photographer.

Count me in - although I'm now kicking myself for not taking any firework photos during the big British November celebration, Bonfire Night, on Friday!

Your photos are very beautiful. November to me me is lengthening days, acid green of new growth, perfumed air and the sound of birdsong - as it is spring in NZ. A wonderful month. I do remember November in London though; short daylight hours, fog and dim street lights, naked trees, of rushing home from work and having a warm drink and being cosy inside at night - and still a wonderful month. Each season is beautiful in it's own way and each gives so much.

November is the month that marks WORK in the garden. Cutting back perennials, planting bulbs, tidying up the detritus of summer days, and bringing in tender plants . As we accomplish all these things, the wonder around us delights, with the fabulous display of color. It really is impossible to not enjoy the work in this delightful setting! And, with the Frosty Moon (harkening back to Native Americans in the Northeastern U.S.) we pause to take in the autumnal ground frost, sparkling beyond belief in the Moonlight. I hope you enjoy the photo of another phenomenon, representing November to me, in New England.
