Resting in the ruins of Ephesus
For Nicole's Friday Face Off I am sharing cats' faces today. In August 2018, after we had come back from our trip to Turkey, I had already written about the cats of Istanbul. However, somehow I missed to give the cats outside of Istanbul the same "honor". Until today.
In Göreme
The Turkish people are very cat (and dog) friendly people. Especially cats are seen everywhere - most of them are stray cats that nevertheless are looked after. And they are loved by everyone and everyone looks out for them. It was quite amazing to witness.
The cats seem to hang out everywhere - in the streets, in ancient historical sites, in national parks, in museums, even in mosques.
Keeping us company while we had dinner in a street café in Selçuk
We visited the Ephesus Museum in Selçuk and look who was hiding there! Professor Cat, taking a nap.
The roof of the building across from our beautiful small hotel in Selçuk was a meeting point for cats of the neighborhood.
But the highest number of cats we saw in the archaeological site of Ephesus.
It was a punishable hot day and the cats took all the spots in the shade.
They were completely unimpressed by this:
They did what cats can do best - sleeping, napping, resting.
Only a few were a bit more alert.
I guess sleeping in such a historical place on such ancient stones is just perfect for cats. Meow.
If you love cats, you will love this 2016 movie, "Kedi" (cat), about the cats in Istanbul. I loved it. Here is the trailer.
I might not be able to get to your blogs today. Kibeau is ready to cross the rainbow bridge (he is 18 years old) and we hope the vet can come over tomorrow. Today is probably his last day and I want to be at his side. He has always loved company.

My wife and I had two outdoor cats on different occasions during our first 30 years of marriage. However, we always had dogs. Now we have 3 indoor cats and no dogs. They are all rescues. We found 2 out in the middle of the streets of Del Rio, and 1 found us, when she ended up in one of our flower beds. They are sweet, loving, and loyal companions. Happy FFO!
Lovely cats
So many adorable kitties. They look content. It was similar when I went to the Acropolis in Athens. So many cats. But I was glad to see that there were people who came to feed them. Did you notice that in Turkey? Happy weekend. hugs-Erika
Dear Carola, I love ❤️ cats. These beautiful cat pictures has brought me much joy 😊
...Carola, you found some with gorgeous coloring, the calico is a favorite.
I only have indoor cats. That keeps them safer. I fear those cats in Turkey never get neutered. The photos you shared are wonderful, though.
So sorry to read about Kibeau. Happy belated FFO. Did you get my e-mail?
The cats are lovely, Carola, but I shudder to think what carnage is inflicted on the local birds and small mammals with all these feral cats on the loose. They live in a benign climate so I am sure the felines thrive. Huge hugs - David
Well, you know you're pushing all my happy buttons here! I love each and every photo!
I love this post! When we visited the Colosseum in Rome, the stars of the whole place were the stray cats who live there. They would pose for the tourists. And I have seen the movie "Kedi" -- it is delightful.
Sorry to hear that Kibeau's journey is nearly done. Glad you will be with him at the end.
First I'm so sorry about Kibeau. The most important thing is that you are with him. All of the cat photos are pretty amazing. For being stray cats they all look pretty healthy. Thank you for sharing with FFO.
Lovely pictures of the cats, they look very healthy.
An interesting coincidence is that in the picture with two cats, it looks like our former cats, who were siblings. The black and white one was a male and the other was a female. The colors of the cats in the picture are almost similar, but our male cat had a black chin.
I love how cats always find the best spots -- shade, stones, rooftops, cafés!
Your photos capture their charm perfectly.
Sending hugs for Kibeau, may his last day be filled with comfort and love.
So sorry to read about Kibeau...
I did enjoy seeing all of your photographs.
All the best Jan
Alles Liebe, 🤗 Traude

You took a lot of pictures of a lot of cats, and they are always in different poses. I just look at them, especially the baby cats, but they were never near me in my life. I live on the second floor of a house, they wouldn't have any freedom, and if I were to travel, there would be no one to take care of them.
I like that they care so much in Turkey, it's a nice human trait.
M. definitely doesn't like them, and last time he saw someone on TV petting a cat and then immediately continuing cooking without washing his hands. M. gave his opinion...
If anyone who loves cats disagrees with me now, I can only write: "Every person is very different". I don't think I'm a bad person.
I'm an accepting type when someone is different from me. I'm happy with this trait of mine, it makes my life easier.
I've looked at all your pictures, and you are very talented at photographing cats too.
All the best to you with or without cats.
Besos.
