T is for KniTTing

Buying yarn is like buying art supplies and paper - it's all so beautiful and you do want to have it all. If only I had more hands to work on several projects simultaneously.

Knitting has become a very important activity in my daily life. I do it every day - sometimes I start out in the morning, sometimes I only do it while watching a movie, most often I do it in the afternoon, either in my garden or in the living room. There is always a project on my needles and dozens more in my mind that I want to do.

My dominant knitting project is socks - warm, soft, cozy socks that are the bestseller in my Etsy shop

Every now and then I knit socks for myself (I wish I did it more often). I got this pattern book last year and the sock patterns in it are fantastic. I chose one that was quite time consuming, but it was worth every single stitch.

The leftover yarn I use to knit up baby socks and cat ornaments.

I also love to knit hats. The one with the birds is a favorite of mine. It is made with merino wool and therefore quite warm, but thin enough for an evening at the beach in the summer. The Cookie Monster and Big Bird hats I made for the two little girls of a friend. They were a fast and fun project. The girls also wear the pumpkin hat.

Of course my favorite person to knit for is Kaefer. I made a summer sweater for her birthday. I love this particular yarn because the company plants a tree for each skein that is sold. With this sweater three more trees were planted. While I was knitting this sweater I constantly worried whether it would fit. I do know my daughter's measurements, but hand knitted sweaters can be tricky.

She sent me a photo that put an end to my worries.

While I knit I always have something to drink by my side - and this is my ticket to join the T gang, so kindly hosted by Elizabeth. Most often my drink is either water or a refreshing juice like this pineapple-hibiscus cooler.

But sometimes it is a glass of cool and dry rosé.

Cheers!

  3. Your knitting is gorgeous Carola. I love to knit also. I've been working on a sweater, which isn't very interesting to knit, and I need to pull out another project and put the sweater aside for awhile. Kaefer's sweater came out beautiful and looks lovely on her. And nice socks and hats too. This is wonderful T day post with your drinks and all your beautiful projects. Have a great T day and week ahead too. Hugs-Erika

  4. Hi I so enjoyed seeing all of your knitting, my dear friend that passed away this year was like you and loved to knit, she also crocheted as well-and she always had projects going. Her favorite was socks too, and she had gifted me a pair of wool socks a few years back. so glad you shared with us Happy T Kathy

  5. Your knitting is beautiful! I love the beautiful color variations in the yarns. I know what you mean about buy (collecting) yarn. I have a bunch but I am not in a knitting phase right now so it is just sitting until I get inspired. I think my favorite are the socks. Amazing!
    Happy Tea Day,

  7. Hi Carola, your knitting is fabulous, what a wonderful variety you have made. I used to knit a lot, but my fingers don't cooperate any more, so it's sadly a thing of the past! Have a fun T Day, enjoy your drink! Hugs, Valerie

  8. Guess what I have on my feet :-)
Made by Ingo´s late Grandma (She mixed yarns, we all love those). She once knit a pair of socks for little Sesame-Street-Elmo even. Time to put them on again!

WOW to the cats!!! And the hats, sooo fun and beautiful. Great sweater and cute pic, too. As the drink. Here it´s hot tea-time, brrrr. Can you say cheers with that, still?
    Happy T-Day!

  9. Your knitting projects are very impressive. I've never learned to knit at all, so I'm especially respectful of those who learn to do it so well.

  10. Wow, your knitting is fabulous! I am so impressed! Impressed you can knit and drink wine too - lol - it would mess me up! This makes me want to start knitting - maybe something I can do in retirement. That sweater is wonderful and I love the socks. Happy T-day, Carola. Great post!

  11. Your knitting is beautiful. I love the hats with the birds. Yes, I love to knit socks too. It's not easy to find sock wool here as I like them to be machine washable wool. Acrylic makes my feet sweat. I order it online, but the shipping costs are usually high. I knit mainly in the winter as in summer it is very hot here. Now that autumn has hit, I ought to get my knitting out again.
Do you knit your socks with round needles? I do and I also knit from the toe upwards. I find that easiest.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  13. Beautiful knitting!! Your stitches are so precise and uniform looking. I especially love the birdie hats! But the cats are so cute too. And I sure could use some colorful warm socks right now too;) Thanks for sharing and happy T day!

  14. Your knitting blew me away. Those socks are incredible. I love them. But of course, I love the cats, too. Just lovely. Thanks for sharing these with us because I am so impressed with all the added care and such you use when making them. I also like that you chose two different drinks for T this week. I like the pineapple-hibiscus cooler. It sounds wonderful. I'm not a drinker of wine, but your rose is beautiful in that gorgeous vignette. Thanks for sharing these with us for T this Tuesday, dear Carola.

  16. Carola, these socks are so cute, and I love the hat with the birds. And that pumpkin hat! That is just something else. What a special talent you have.
Off to check out your etsy shop right now. Keep knitting, my friend.

  18. Thank you so much for visitng my blog, which gave me a chance to come here and see all the beautiful things you create. You are so talented, multi-talented, I guess it's called. I'm from Sweden and when I was 12 I spent a summer visiting a German family. They took me all over Germany and we spent time on the island of Lanegoog. An unforgettable experience for a young person.

  19. Well, these are spectacular, Carola. Really lovely in every way. I adore the socks. I made one once and lost the pattern so I have one sock. Handmade socks are the best. And the details with the birds and all on the hats are great. I used to knit loads of sweaters back in the 80s and early 90s. (and you are right -- they are tricky). I haven't done much besides scarves, felted purses and dishcloths in ages (and really, nothing much in the past few years.) I know what you mean about yarn being like art supplies -- you want it all!

  21. I have a friend who knits every day too, it's her favourite form of relaxation. I prefer crochet but I can't do it every day due to some joint problems. I like to crochet socks rather than knit them, wearing some of them today in fact. I love your display of socks and cat ornaments and that hat with the birds is really cute. Sorry for my lateness, Happy T Day! Elle/EOTC xx

  22. Oh my, Carola, those socks were fantastic and there is almost nothing I like better than to wear a comfortable pair when at home, especially now. I really liked you color choices and also checked out your etsy site to see all your other beautiful creations. I have never knitted myself but several friends so and like yourself they like to do so when watching a show or movie.
