Loving the Light
Every morning I start the day with a walk in the garden. The pandemic hasn't changed that - on the contrary, the garden has become my refuge even more than in "normal" times. I particularly like the mornings because of the light - I simply love how only bits and parts are illuminated while everything around it remains in the shadows.
It's also the quality of the light - it's warm and soft, spreading a beautiful glow. How can I as a photographer not see that? And how can I not try to capture it in an image?
The peony had an additional gift - morning dew. Can you see the tiny droplets?
Even the pots become something whimsical.
A small part of the hollyhocks beside the path is illuminated - these plants will grow pretty tall and are a very few of non-drought tolerant plants in my garden. My guilty pleasure - I love hollyhocks, they always remind me of England.
I'm loving the light in the pomegranate tree - this is the tree I planted a few weeks ago and it already gives me so much joy.
What is your morning routine that sets you up for the day?
Here I am to stroll through your morning garden with you Carola. You've captured the warm glow from the sun. Would I just be wearing a sweater in your garden? Or is it warm enough for a tshirt? I love your succulents. Where there is earth exposed at my driveway garden, the succulents are already growing as they emerge from the snow. My morning routine is to rise early and watch dawn color the sky. Shortly thereafter, I put on jacket, mask, and gloves to take my 5 mile walk in the neighborhood. Last week, I met a moose lying by the side of the road busily chewing. Luckily, I saw it from a distance and didn't get too close. We still have snow, but it's melting bit by bit. I have some hope for spring here at high altitude. Stay well.
ReplyDeleteThese are all beautiful, you have such a great talent for photography.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as if our mornings are very similar. I am usually up well before first light (which has not yet arrived here). And I love watching the colour bathe the garden, the skies, the hills...
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, the garden is my refuge, my haven, my solace.
This was a pleasure to walk in your garden in blogland this morning. I will look at my gardens more carefully today. There is always more beauty to see.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful garden images. Early morning light is so fabulous, isn't it? Your garden looks like a magical place.
ReplyDeleteYou peony photo is just magnificent. Ours won't bloom for at least a month.

We who have gardens are very fortunate, and I agree that they become places of refuge and corners of delight. Those who live in tiny apartments in high rise buildings in a city must suffer from Covid-19 far more than we do. Stay well, Carola. And keep your fingers, toes and everything else crossed for no fires this year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful routine -- and with all those photos, what a productive one, too. I love each and every one. A calm way to start the day.
ReplyDeleteMy routine -- after feeding Lizzie, I generally tackle email and watch Perry Mason reruns while I check a few blogs. But when it's a little warmer in the morning, that will change and I'll do my walk first thing when there are fewer people and it will be easier to distance. (And I might stand a better chance on catching some of the wildlife, too!)
Gorgeous photos Carola! On the mornings when I actually get through my morning routine, it includes journaling, reading, stretching, and meditation. I have to admit that it has been difficult to stick with it right now.
ReplyDeleteIf I was fortunate to have such pretty plants I would walk often in my garden, too. Your photos are excellent and the feeling of warmth and light is well expressed. I tend to read quite late at night so am not much of a morning person. I often go and sit on my front porch though and listen to some music while watching the young fearless joggers running by.
ReplyDeleteI always start my day with a cup of tea and a good breakfast!
ReplyDeleteA walk in the garden is always enjoyable … and I certainly enjoyed seeing your beautiful photographs.
All the best Jan
Tolle Aufnahmen . Das Lichtspiel ist klasse.

Hello Carola! First of all, I would like to thank you for visiting and leaving such nice words on my blog. I am grateful for Iris's blog that she led you to my blog and you then led me here at yours! These plants are amazing! I am a very new garden enthusiast which actually just started this COVID pandemic period and it has really helped me stay away from my anxious thoughts. Seeing these plants from your garden is just mesmerizing! I have not seen these variety of succulents that you have! The red ones on the first photo is striking and could really give a beautiful accent to a garden display. I am very happy to be here and I followed your blog :)
ReplyDeleteHope to see you on Timeless Thursdays as you said, I would love to see you there soon and thank you Carola again for your visit, I'm grateful I'm here because of that :) hugs from the Philippines!

How I wish I have a garden like yours. Peonies are one of my favorite flowers. It sure looks inviting to walk around your garden.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my blog. Have a great day.
Absolutely beautiful photos. You captured the beauty being highlighted by the light. Light does magical things to the ordinary things we see every day. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment on my blog. I appreciate and enjoyed visiting yours.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful evening and stay safe.
Wow, die peony ist wunder-wunderschön! Danke, sowas habe ich noch nie gesehen!
ReplyDeleteIch huste mich noch so durch, bin müde, das ist der kälteste Mai, an den ich mich erinnern kann.
Your garden is absolutely beautiful Carola. Your keen eye has caught many a delightful aspect of it. I love the shadows against the terracotta pot.
ReplyDeleteWe who have gardens are so fortunate, in many ways.
Cheers to you xx
All the photos are wonderful, but that Peony is amazing. It's my cousin's favorite flower. There's something so beautiful about the sunlight shining through our windows, homes, and gardens. I smiled when I saw the pomegranate tree, as I put one in Nel's stocking every Christmas. ; )
ReplyDeleteHave a splendid week, and enjoy your garden, Carola.

Carola , your garden is so beautiful and your photographs are truly works of art! (Some of us take snapshots. You are a *Photographer*. ). I no longer garden myself, but looking at other people’s beautiful yards is a joy, especially this time of year ... and especially (as you say) during this pandemic. I walk in our neighborhood almost every day ...dutifully wearing my mask!
