After my request for some extra hours of work in September was ignored, I am back to my regular work schedule. Today was my first day off after the craziness of the past four weeks and I was happily walking around the lake. It was fairly early, and it was one of those perfect mornings when the fog burns off soon after seven o'clock, letting us enjoy the warm and beautiful morning light.
I love this light. Everything appears a bit magical and I see things that I might "normally" just pass by.
Even though we still have a lot of summer left in this corner of the world, there already was a hint of autumn color to be seen. The quality of the light was not as harsh and tended to be more earthy.
I noticed more fishermen than usual. The lake was very still, and maybe that's a great condition for fishing. It certainly offered some beautiful photo opportunities.
At the end of the little peninsula I saw a great egret hanging out close to the bench. I was able to get a shot of it before it flew off across the lake to the shore that I had just come from.
What were those splashes in the water that I had heard? Oh, those otters!! These three otters have been residing in the lake for a few years now, but I don't see them very often. It's always very special when I discover them playing in the water. They are a funny little crowd, but usually they disappear when they notice people.
While walking the trails I noticed more signs that autumn is just around the corner.
What a magnificent spider web! These crawlers are fantastic architects; their skill amazes me over and over again.
During the past four weeks I was dreaming of going down to the lake and I missed it so much. This morning was a wonderful treat that I had waited for impatiently. I feel so blessed to live in this beautiful area. I'm certainly not a city girl.

I am very happy for you that you finally got a day off, and especially that you got to spend it in such a tranquil area. I am sure that is was cathartic in so many ways. Your pictures are exquisite and have a dreamy quality about them. I find them very appealing.
I am a big, big fan of early morning light. And of autumn.
Many thanks for the gift of both today.
I think your walk is a good trade off for those extra work hours. (but of course if you need the money, maybe not). These are gorgeous photos.
You're right about that light! It's beautiful and perfect for the photos. What a wonderful spot. That egret in flight over water is a gem.
Oh, the lake is beautiful, Carola. I especially like the photo of the man fishing. That is so pretty. And the Egret's reflection in the water is a wonderful sight. When I look at a spider web it always fascinates me. Such a work of art. I'm wondering if anyone can pick those berries? It looks like there are signs of Autumn around your neck of the woods.

*to answer your question, I'm not sure why I don't like the lizards. I guess they are small and quick and they come when we least expect it, when we are admiring a garden, when we go to get our mail, when we take a peaceful walk. Lizards and mice are just creepy to me. But I'm glad they don't bother you in your garden when they scurry about.
So very happy to see your lake again, all of these photos are truly fantastic! I appreciate a softer light, too, you took wonderful advantage of that and your time at such a special place.
The light in all of your photographs is amazing, and I so enjoyed looking at them. I have scrolled up and down several times to keep enjoying them :)
I just love this time of year, enjoy your weekend.
All the best Jan
Hello Carola, I loved seeing all these beautiful photos as you took your walk.
Being in the moment and appreciating all the aspects of nature, such as you have, is so calming. I think its what they call mindfulness but no matter about names or tags, it was wonderful being able to take that walk with you.
Those lake captures are especially gorgeous.
Best wishes 💝
Simply beautiful. I love early mornings on our lake and in my forest - the light is so beautiful. It is beginning to look a little like autumn in your area, although you have some summer left. My area looks similar, right now, but summer will quickly be gone and winter is just around the corner. This is a lovely series of photos!
