Well, not a bad sandstorm, really - but bad enough to chase us back into the car as quickly as possible.
In this picture you can see the sandstorm in the not too far distance, blowing the sand over to the rest area next to the freeway. We were on our way to Arizona, but this is still in the desert in California along Interstate 40 between Barstow and Needles. The desert here looks like this:
Not really much to see... and the sand can pretty much do what it wants. Like blowing over the ground and into people's faces and eyes - not fun. The wind was hard, and we tried to get back into our car as quickly as possible. But not before I had taken some pictures of the fence around the rest area.
I wish you could see how everything was bent in the strong wind!
I'm linking up to Theresa's Good Fences!
It's been a while since of seen the desert! Nice shots!
ReplyDeletei can almost feel the grit in my face from these shots. :)
ReplyDeletePretty desert scenery, I love the view of the mountains.. Great shots.. Have a happy day!
ReplyDeletesandstorms is not fun. I´ve been in a few. But from a distance they ae quite gorgeous. Like mist. The fence probably don´t stop it much. :)
ReplyDeleteI have been through this are many times and you really caught the feeling of the land. Yes! It can get very, very windy there.
ReplyDeleteWow, this was very enjoyable for me. It brings back memories of visiting my grandfather every summer in Arizona!
ReplyDeleteYes definitely desert.
ReplyDeleteHallo Carola,

I guess sandstorms can cause as much havoc as a snowstorm, right? I'm sure I wouldn't want sand in my eyes!
ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine what it must be like to be in a sandstorm, all stuck in your eyes, etc.
ReplyDeleteI have only been in one sand storm and hope I never do again. The desert can be a nice place or a terrible one.
ReplyDeleteLovely scenery and fences
ReplyDeleteThe sandstorm seems far off, thankfully. Beautiful dessert pictures, Carola ... would like to see more, especially in the spring when everythng is blooming. The dessert can be a beautiful place.

It looks familiar.
ReplyDeleteBlowing sand is not fun. We have a desert like area near us (about an hours drive) and I've been caught in dust storms there, not fun. - These shots are great. I really liked the last one. Such a barren looking countryside.
ReplyDeleteSoooo similar to a lot of our country. And for some reason I hadn't thought of it as desert. It is, but I hadn't thought of it that way.
ReplyDeleteHarsh country. Uncompromising. And often beautiful.
Amazing landscape. Quite different from the Northeast where I am!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos! Wow! I have never been in a sandstorm!
ReplyDeleteoohhhh what gorgeous shots!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images..Sandstorms are ouchy....
