Fence in a Sandstorm

Well, not a bad sandstorm, really - but bad enough to chase us back into the car as quickly as possible.

In this picture you can see the sandstorm in the not too far distance, blowing the sand over to the rest area next to the freeway. We were on our way to Arizona, but this is still in the desert in California along Interstate 40 between Barstow and Needles. The desert here looks like this:

Not really much to see... and the sand can pretty much do what it wants. Like blowing over the ground and into people's faces and eyes - not fun. The wind was hard, and we tried to get back into our car as quickly as possible. But not before I had taken some pictures of the fence around the rest area.

I wish you could see how everything was bent in the strong wind!

  7. Hallo Carola,

  8. I guess sandstorms can cause as much havoc as a snowstorm, right? I'm sure I wouldn't want sand in my eyes!

  9. I can't even imagine what it must be like to be in a sandstorm, all stuck in your eyes, etc.

  10. I have only been in one sand storm and hope I never do again. The desert can be a nice place or a terrible one.

  11. The sandstorm seems far off, thankfully. Beautiful dessert pictures, Carola ... would like to see more, especially in the spring when everythng is blooming. The dessert can be a beautiful place.

  12. Blowing sand is not fun. We have a desert like area near us (about an hours drive) and I've been caught in dust storms there, not fun. - These shots are great. I really liked the last one. Such a barren looking countryside.

  13. Soooo similar to a lot of our country. And for some reason I hadn't thought of it as desert. It is, but I hadn't thought of it that way.
Harsh country. Uncompromising. And often beautiful.
