Fridays is one of my favorite blogging days because it means Paint Party Friday and Studio Sneak Peek! I love these weekly get togethers because it keeps me painting and working on new art pieces - or finishing some.
This girl was still a work in progress last Friday, but now she is finished - she's the girl with a big heart. I really like how she turned out, especially since I've always been afraid of painting faces. She's far from perfect - all my work is like that - but I think she has some soul.
I would like to do a painting of a mother and daughter and am practicing this with charcoal. These two I sketched on the backside of some paper that was lying around (you can see the text peeking through on the bottom) - I still have a lot of practicing to do! But how much do I love it!
Please come and visit the other artists at Paint Party Friday and Sneak Peek Friday; every week there is some wonderful work to see and find a lot of inspiration.

Your big-hearted girl is so pretty--I love the little bird sitting on her shoulder! Your new sketch looks very promising--I already love the sweetness of their faces and the gesture of their heads leaning together. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteLove that textured heart and nice charcoal of the mother and daughter too!
ReplyDeleteI love your girl with the big heart! She does look soulful.
ReplyDeleteYour mother daughter sketches are really good...I can't wait to see what you will do with them.
hi, Carola, yes, i think the link parties encourage me to create as well. your face painting is wonderful and i don't think art is meant to be "perfect"! it is meant to have soul and i really like the theme you picked. i believe in practice practice practice so keep it up. when i started making ATCs i often didn't like how they turned out. later i got to like them more and more (although they are still not "perfect"). i used to trace faces a lot and told my sister Patsy it would make her have muscle memory in drawing faces.
ReplyDeletehappy creating and thanks for sharing,
hugs, peggy aplSEEDS
Carola your faces are beautiful. You know a lot more about them than I do. And the two mother and daughter sketches look great too.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteIt has been awhile since I have stopped by and what a beautiful piece I see this day. She is beautiful and I love the elements you have added to the piece. Well I really like your art and this one even more.
Take care, Amanda

This, like all of your creative efforts is wonderful. She has so much chararcter and is so alive. I think this is one of the best.
ReplyDeletea great outcome Carola
ReplyDeleteGreat background on your finished lady and all those butterflies flitting about are a fun touch. Charming charcoal - something I've not tried. Good for you in working to try something new .... thanks for the visit and kind comments.
ReplyDeleteWunderschöne Zeichnungen - und, ich habe mal einen Blick in Deinen Etsy-Shop geworfen: Allerliebst ! So schöne Ideen hast Du da umgesetzt. Klasse !
ReplyDeleteViele Grüße Synnöve
Your pieces have such character and I think the mother and daughter sketches are adorable. They work so well being so free in style.
ReplyDeleteLove Jo x
The mother and daughter sketches are so sweet, you really captured something there. And your Big Hearted Girl is great, I think it's often the lack of perfection that we are drawn to in a painting. Perfection can feel cold, while imperfection feels warm and human.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! The texture of the heart is fun. And I can't wait to see what your charcoal heart turns into!
ReplyDeleteLove your Girl with a Big Heart!
ReplyDeleteThink my favorite part is the lovely bird on her shoulder that took me a moment to notice. :)
I know what you mean about looking forward to Paint Party Friday and enjoying the momentum and motivation that comes with it!
I am your newest blog follower, too! :)

ReplyDeleteBeautiful mother/daughter sketches but your butterfly lady is wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteWow..I love everything here. The mother/daughter sketches are endearingly sweet..and the girl with the big heart just speaks to me with her soul!!
ReplyDeleteyour sketching shows a freedom of expression and style that is not discernable in your painting on your collage,
ReplyDeletethe collage (beautiful) looks like it is done by a different artist...the sketches have movement and depth, which I think is even more beautiful.

ReplyDeleteMy g'ma did charcoal drawings in her day, Carola. I have a feeling you will love it, based on what I see here. And I LOVE that you have faced your fear of painting faces, because you have clearly conquered it!
ReplyDeleteShe is charming! Like her lovely friends too.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Lots of character in her face. It's good to try new things and the mother/daughter sketches show love. Remember that whenever you paint, "your" soul in going into that painting. Great work. Have a wonderful week Carola.
