Girl With a Big Heart

Fridays is one of my favorite blogging days because it means Paint Party Friday and Studio Sneak Peek! I love these weekly get togethers because it keeps me painting and working on new art pieces - or finishing some.

This girl was still a work in progress last Friday, but now she is finished - she's the girl with a big heart. I really like how she turned out, especially since I've always been afraid of painting faces. She's far from perfect - all my work is like that - but I think she has some soul.

I would like to do a painting of a mother and daughter and am practicing this with charcoal. These two I sketched on the backside of some paper that was lying around (you can see the text peeking through on the bottom) - I still have a lot of practicing to do! But how much do I love it!

Please come and visit the other artists at Paint Party Friday and Sneak Peek Friday; every week there is some wonderful work to see and find a lot of inspiration.

  1. Your big-hearted girl is so pretty--I love the little bird sitting on her shoulder! Your new sketch looks very promising--I already love the sweetness of their faces and the gesture of their heads leaning together. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  4. hi, Carola, yes, i think the link parties encourage me to create as well. your face painting is wonderful and i don't think art is meant to be "perfect"! it is meant to have soul and i really like the theme you picked. i believe in practice practice practice so keep it up. when i started making ATCs i often didn't like how they turned out. later i got to like them more and more (although they are still not "perfect"). i used to trace faces a lot and told my sister Patsy it would make her have muscle memory in drawing faces.
happy creating and thanks for sharing,

  10. What is it about faces? I too have been afraid of them. Your face is wonderful - really like the lips- a great shape to them! You are so right - she has some soul!

  18. The mother and daughter sketches are so sweet, you really captured something there. And your Big Hearted Girl is great, I think it's often the lack of perfection that we are drawn to in a painting. Perfection can feel cold, while imperfection feels warm and human.

  30. your sketching shows a freedom of expression and style that is not discernable in your painting on your collage,

the collage (beautiful) looks like it is done by a different artist...the sketches have movement and depth, which I think is even more beautiful.
