Fridays is one of my favorite blogging days because it means Paint Party Friday and Studio Sneak Peek! I love these weekly get togethers because it keeps me painting and working on new art pieces - or finishing some.
This girl was still a work in progress last Friday, but now she is finished - she's the girl with a big heart. I really like how she turned out, especially since I've always been afraid of painting faces. She's far from perfect - all my work is like that - but I think she has some soul.
I would like to do a painting of a mother and daughter and am practicing this with charcoal. These two I sketched on the backside of some paper that was lying around (you can see the text peeking through on the bottom) - I still have a lot of practicing to do! But how much do I love it!
Please come and visit the other artists at Paint Party Friday and Sneak Peek Friday; every week there is some wonderful work to see and find a lot of inspiration.

Your big-hearted girl is so pretty--I love the little bird sitting on her shoulder! Your new sketch looks very promising--I already love the sweetness of their faces and the gesture of their heads leaning together. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Love that textured heart and nice charcoal of the mother and daughter too!
I love your girl with the big heart! She does look soulful.
Your mother daughter sketches are really good...I can't wait to see what you will do with them.
hi, Carola, yes, i think the link parties encourage me to create as well. your face painting is wonderful and i don't think art is meant to be "perfect"! it is meant to have soul and i really like the theme you picked. i believe in practice practice practice so keep it up. when i started making ATCs i often didn't like how they turned out. later i got to like them more and more (although they are still not "perfect"). i used to trace faces a lot and told my sister Patsy it would make her have muscle memory in drawing faces.
happy creating and thanks for sharing,
hugs, peggy aplSEEDS
Carola your faces are beautiful. You know a lot more about them than I do. And the two mother and daughter sketches look great too.
Hello,
It has been awhile since I have stopped by and what a beautiful piece I see this day. She is beautiful and I love the elements you have added to the piece. Well I really like your art and this one even more.
Take care, Amanda
That background is really lovely... so glad you are playing with charcoal... it one of my favourite mediums... have a great week and happy ppf...xx
Loving your sketches, you can feel the love. Also love your first piece very much. Enjoy the weekend, Annette x
Your girl with the big heart is lovely, Carola. And I just know your mother and daughter sketches will lead to something equally beautiful.

What is it about faces? I too have been afraid of them. Your face is wonderful - really like the lips- a great shape to them! You are so right - she has some soul!
Those are such happy pieces!! And the mom/daughter sketches warm my heart :)
Happy weekend to you, I hope it's a creative one!

This, like all of your creative efforts is wonderful. She has so much chararcter and is so alive. I think this is one of the best.
a great outcome Carola
Great background on your finished lady and all those butterflies flitting about are a fun touch. Charming charcoal - something I've not tried. Good for you in working to try something new .... thanks for the visit and kind comments.
Wunderschöne Zeichnungen - und, ich habe mal einen Blick in Deinen Etsy-Shop geworfen: Allerliebst ! So schöne Ideen hast Du da umgesetzt. Klasse !
Viele Grüße Synnöve
Your pieces have such character and I think the mother and daughter sketches are adorable. They work so well being so free in style.
Love Jo x
The mother and daughter sketches are so sweet, you really captured something there. And your Big Hearted Girl is great, I think it's often the lack of perfection that we are drawn to in a painting. Perfection can feel cold, while imperfection feels warm and human.
So pretty! The texture of the heart is fun. And I can't wait to see what your charcoal heart turns into!
Love your Girl with a Big Heart!
Think my favorite part is the lovely bird on her shoulder that took me a moment to notice. :)
I know what you mean about looking forward to Paint Party Friday and enjoying the momentum and motivation that comes with it!
I am your newest blog follower, too! :)

I love your painting, but the charcoal drawing is so sweet. Thanks for stopping by today, Carola. :)
Hi Carola -- I like her, you did a good job; she does have soul. I see the contour of her nose and the dimensions of her eyes, strong detail. Blessings Terri www.morningdewdrops.com
Fun to see what you are up to!
Your mother/daughter drawings emote a lovely feeling of togetherness.
I am adoring these sketches with their heads tilted in together! Love!
oh..your girl is lovely and yhete second sketch is gorgeous...so much love in it...xxx
Beautiful mother/daughter sketches but your butterfly lady is wonderful!!
Wow..I love everything here. The mother/daughter sketches are endearingly sweet..and the girl with the big heart just speaks to me with her soul!!
your sketching shows a freedom of expression and style that is not discernable in your painting on your collage,
the collage (beautiful) looks like it is done by a different artist...the sketches have movement and depth, which I think is even more beautiful.

awww, I love your sketch! and the heart painting is beautiful too.

Ein wunderschönes Bild, toll, wie du zeichnen kannst. Das ist etwas, was mir völlig abgeht. Gut, dass es Stempel gibt :)
this is adorable... I'll be Keifer is enjoying your documentation of your relationship...
What a great piece! I love her beautiful blue eyes and I love the butterflies in her hair! Great sketches you are working on too. That is going to be a beautiful painting! :)
My g'ma did charcoal drawings in her day, Carola. I have a feeling you will love it, based on what I see here. And I LOVE that you have faced your fear of painting faces, because you have clearly conquered it!
She is charming! Like her lovely friends too.
Very nice! Lots of character in her face. It's good to try new things and the mother/daughter sketches show love. Remember that whenever you paint, "your" soul in going into that painting. Great work. Have a wonderful week Carola.
Ah these are adorable and so filled with love!!!
Darling girl. I love the sweet bird on her shoulder and your textured heart!
SHE HAD A BIG HEART is wonderful!
