Intuitive Watercolor Landscape

Before I show you my watercolor landscape, I want to tell you that I finally got a set of Schmincke watercolors. I am so excited!

The set includes three of their super granulating colors and a travel brush by da Vinci.

It also comes with its own color chart which I find very handy. I fell in love with the supergranulating colors (the three colors on the right in the bottom row). They have wonderful names like Glacier Green, Tundra Violet and Desert Green.

It didn't arrive before I painted the watercolor trees, so for the painting that you will see I used Sennelier watercolors which are wonderfully buttery and just a joy to paint with.

The "Intuitive Watercolor Landscape" was a lesson by Trupti Karjinni - it was part of this year's Sketchbook Revival hosted by Karen Abend. Trupti was a "new" artist for me, and she was so inspiring that I put everything into practice right away.

We were told to use just two colors and make a color swatch first. This is a practice I have been sticking to since then. Then we did our first little practice painting. I chose the colors Burnt Sienna and Forest Green.

After that we did our "real" watercolor painting. Even though my painting turned out less than mediocre, I'm quite proud of it - watercolor is a challenging medium. I enjoyed the entire process very much. Of course, as a "final touch" I had to add a trio of birds.

This is for Nicole's Sunday in the Art Room

First off, you watercolor landscape is EXCELLENT!!! There is no mediocre involved at all. I'm very impressed with the colors and the composition. Brilliant!!! I can see that each line, each brush stroke is deliberate and very well placed. Watercolor is considered the hardest medium to work in and I think you have conquered it my friend. Now to the paints. I have never heard of these supergranulating paints before. Well, I don't watercolor sooooo. I really love the idea of these. I do have a huge set of Windsor & Newton professional tube watercolors. I have tried to create with them but I'm just no good at it. LOL I love how this set comes and being able to see the vivid colors before you actually use them. I know you will get a lot of use form these and enjoy your time creating with them. Thank you for sharing with SITAR and have a great Sunday.

I love your new set of watercolor paints. And you used them so well too. I love the idea of only using 2 colors, and wow, what you did with those 2 colors is amazing. I love that view and how you can tell there is still water there even though you didn't paint any water. Great job Carola. Have a super week ahead. hugs-Erika

Carola, I’m enchanted by your landscape.
Forest green is one of my favorite shades, and you’ve captured it with such grace.
Impressive work!

Great job, Carola. It is wonderful to have the kind of tools that you prefer, that give you the best opportunity to create at the highest level commensurate with your skills. Keep enjoying them! Big hugs - David

I always enjoy looking at your watercolors because I love them so much anywhere and anytime. I don't like strong contours, I prefer soft flowing confluences.
I like yours with pine trees because you didn't use many colors, and I also like the reflections in real nature and in paintings.
Use your new watercolor set with joy and successful results.
I wish you all the best. Éva from Hungary

I haven't done Trupti's yet, but I took detailed notes and screenshots. I'll get at it when I get up north. I love Sennelier but have always wanted to try Schmincke. I'm glad you like them -- it's a good recommendation. Your art turned out very well, too. That was a fun one! I am so tempted to "overcolor" so this one will be an emotional challenge for me!

Mediocre is not a word I would use to describe your painting. The simple designs with the soft background is stunning and you should be pleased with yourself at this point. I have tried watercolor and it is probably the most difficult medium I have used ... you, my friend, are conqureing it.

Well done you! That is very beautiful. I know how difficult watercoloring is. I have tried it a while back but never got to grips with it. (Probably because I had nobody to teach me)
Enjoy your weekend,
Lisca
