It's poppy time in my garden again! 11 years ago I spread seeds of papaver - those beautiful big poppies that come in all kinds of color. Since then they have reseeded every year and in some years there were so many that I had to take out some of them right after they were done blooming so that they don't overwhelm the garden in the following year. However, I always left enough poopies go to seed and consequently, never ran out of them.
This year, most of my poppies are of the classic crimson corn poppy kind. They always remind me of the huge poppy fields in Germany.
Poppy field in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany
My poppies happily mingle with all the other flowers in my front garden - allium, California poppy, yarrow "Moonshine", and Spanish lavender to name a few.
Every single flower is an amzing piece of natural beauty.
I also love them when they're not quite open yet.
As I mentioned in my last post, we have started to enjoy our meals outside. The warmer weather also means the start of Rosé season - my favorite is a chilled dry one. So wonderful when enjoyed outside. And of course it deserves to be shared with the T gang that comes together for Bleubeard and Elizabeth's T Tuesday. Thank you, Elizabeth, for this great opportunity.
I wish all of you a week filled with sunshine and laughter.
Gorgeous photos-I really enjoyed your post, I would love a glass of wine with you

Your poppies are splendid! The colors are so vivid in every photo, and your way of focusing and framing each flower is beautiful. I am thinking of the Monet painting of people walking in a poppy field near Argenteuil.

I adore poppies and let most of ours go to seed each year. The double poppy seeds I save and broadcast. On this side of the world some seedlings are already emerging. I do hope they survive our winter.
ReplyDeleteYour glass of rose looks lovely - and I warm to drier wines myself.
I love Poppies! Yours are stunning and I love that you have a variety of colors. It looks like a lovely place to eat and be surrounded by nature.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
Your garden poppies are amazing Carola. I have never had any luck with poppies in my garden so I really enjoy seeing yours. That's great that they reseed also. I like how they grow among the other plants too. I like a garden that looks like it just grew that way and isn't super formal. Maybe I should say any garden is beautiful, but what I like in my yard is not a formal one. Enjoy your poppies and your glass of wine outside too. Happy T day. hugs-Erika
ReplyDeletePoppies look quite pretty and liberating. Love the photos.
ReplyDeleteI would love to get some of those beauties established in my garden in such a way! I have scattered papaver seeds several times over the years, with nothing to show for them. I wonder what I am doing wrong... What time of year did you sow the seeds? Did you have to prepare them in any way first?
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore the poppies in your front garden. I also like how they mingle with other plants. Isn't yarrow an herb? That's what I got mine for. Your photos are simply spectacular. I will join you as long as I have a dessert wine. I am not fond of wine as a whole. Thanks for sharing your amazing photos of your poppies and your rose wine with us for T this Tuesday, dear Carola.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! I did a poppy post last week, it's poppy time here, too! They are such beautiful flowers. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteSo red, so bold, so vibrant, so beautiful. Abrazos y besos amiga Montse.
ReplyDeleteLiebe Carola,
Alles Liebe 🌱🌿🌱 und happy T-Day, Traude

Hi Carola: I think I was confused when I just left a comment, getting two different blogs totally mixed up in my head, so please discard it. Wonderful vibrant poppies, so very beautiful and presented like an artiste's palette. This is an image to fix in the brain to enjoy the whole day. Best wishes - David
ReplyDeleteI so need to plant some poppies! I love them. There is a pottery/art gallery in a nearby town that has a poppy theme/mascot. She makes hundreds/thousands of ceramic ones for Memorial day - it is beautiful. Yay for outdoor meals and chilled wine. Lovely post, Carola. Happy T-day. Hugz

ReplyDeleteThank you for the gorgeous photos! We don't see poppies around here at all. Happy T Tuesday
ReplyDeleteRed poppies are one of my very favorites. To see a field like this would stop my heart, it's so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous post, Carola! Your garden is beyond beautiful! Red is my favorite color, and red poppies are one of my favorite flowers. Of course, when I see red poppies, I always think of WWI and John McCrae's poem "In Flanders Fields." I shared this poem with my school kiddos every year. Often we did a choral reading of it for the whole school on November 11th. If I taught in Florida, I might not be able to do that now. What is happening to teaching in certain parts of the year is horrible. May your garden continue yielding such beauty!
ReplyDeletePoppies, they are the prettiest. Wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteOoh those poppies are really Wonderful Carola ! Love to see the field full of them. Thanks so much for sharing these lovely photographs with us. Great glass of wine, hope you had a very nice t-day.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday and weekend
Big hugs, Caty
ah be still my heart, I love poppies, they are my favourite flower for the garden, I have some herbaceous poppies in a few different colours but they haven't opened up yet, and my neighbour has yellow field poppies - so pretty and delicate. Happy T Day! Elle/EOTC xx
ReplyDeleteThe poppies are always such a cheerful looking flower. Thanks, Carola, for showing all the variations other than the red I have become so familiar with through its association with a holiday and a poem.
