Paris in July 2019 - Un Appartement sous le Toit
During our visit to Paris in the summer of 2014 we stayed in an apartment in Rue Molière just off Avenue de l'Opéra. It was a typical old building where you first had to go into an inner courtyard before entering the house.
Our apartment was right beneath the roof which meant climbing stairs - many stairs. You're asking for an elevator? Are you kidding?
But once we reached our apartment we entered a charming little realm.
The couple from whom we rented this apartment lives here in the "slow" season, but during the busy late spring, summer and early fall they are living on a boat on the Seine. They were both artists and the apartment was filled with their art.
The entrance was full with book shelves loaded with books and paintings. From here we directly came into the living/dining room.
At the far end of the dining section was a tiny kitchen.
A very steep staircase - more like a ladder - led up to the two sleeping areas.
This is the view from the top of the ladder. It was wise to be very careful and not just half awake.
The "door" to the bathroom (off the living room) ...
... and - tada - the bathroom!
Even though we were living in the middle of Paris it was very quiet. The view out of the windows in the roof wasn't spectacular, but very Paris.
This is my last post for Tamara's Paris in July on her blog Thyme for Tea. It was fun to participate and re-visit all those memories.
I love these pictures! What a marvelous place, which reminds me so much of the times I’ve been in Paris and how much I long to return.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful apartment!
ReplyDeleteWhat an artsy place to stay while in Paris! Beautiful in the details and a character home indeed. Glad you took all these photos as they must be memorable for you. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous place, I like the white stone sculptures and the decor and views. The stairs up to it and in the apartment mean it is not very friendly to people as we age though. I would definitely stay in it for a visit.
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely glorious space. I suspect the stairs (and that ladder) would have been too much for my wobbly self - but also suspect I would have made a valiant effort.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much - I have really enjoyed this series about a city I have never visited.
A great little apartment to be sure and you got your exercise every time you came home. It is always good to go into a place that has lots of books. I think when you use that bathroom you have to announce it to everyone ahead of time!
ReplyDeleteThis building is so Parisian and looks like a perfect place to lay your head on holiday there. I love the old staircase! The owners have amazing style. That ladder is scary but adds so much character. The bathroom is fabulous with that mosaic work.
ReplyDeleteI loved getting to see inside this lovely Paris apartment, thank you so much! That was a lot of stairs but pretty ones!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a truly french apartment to enjoy a french holiday in. So typically colourful, busy and cosy. Thank you for sharing this - especially as we leave Paris in July for another year, we will remember to visit places like this next year. Merci
ReplyDeleteIt looks a very artsy place to stay while in Paris, but goodness those stairs!
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy seeing all of your photographs.
All the best Jan
I'm afraid if I went there to stay, I would never leave! It's fabulous! The stairs remind me of the first time I visited my friend who lives in Paris. After lugging a VERY LARGE suitcase and tote up 94 steps, I learned to pack much, MUCH lighter!
ReplyDeleteWow, what an amazing little funky place! I love it! I have to admit, the little ladder going to the sleeping area, I don't think I could have done! I would have been sleeping on the kitchen floor! LOL! Big Hugs!
