Favorite Photos of 2017

In 2017 I took way less photos than in the years before. Have I lost my passion for photography? No, certainly not. It was more the lack of time, being occupied with other things, not feeling well and also a certain degree of laziness during my days off work. Work at both schools often left me tired and exhausted and simply overrode all my wonderful plans for getting to places and shoot.

Still, there is a good amount of photos. At the beginning of each year I create a "favorites" folder where I put in all the photos of that particular year that I especially like, either because I think they're good or they touch me in a certain way. This year, 106 photos made it into that folder. From these 106 photos I chose my favorite 15 (the "super favorites") that I will show you here. These photos are not necessarily the best photos I took during the year - many of those already were featured in my blog posts - but those that speak to me in one way or other. Even a photo taken with my phone made it into the selection as well as a photo bomb.

I would love you to choose your three favorites out of this selection and let me know which ones they are in the comments. Since the photos are numbered just mention the number. At the end I will see which ones are YOUR favorites and post them here. In addition, there will be one set of photo cards with your chosen favorites that will get to one of you who have left a "voting" comment. This is open to international readers as well! You can "vote" on this post until Saturday, January 27th. The winners - both the photos and the lucky person - will be announced on January 28th.

So without further ado, here are the photos:

1. Grand Teton Thistle

2. Waiting for the Grapes

3. Reflecting Pool

4. Ocean Fence

5. Lone Tree

6. Morning in Hayden Valley

7. Taste of Summer

8. Photo Bomb

9. Surviving

10. Purple Dream

11. Pink Glow

12. Love and Hope

13. California Poppies

14. Winter Vineyard

15. The Road to Autumn

I can't wait to see which ones are your favorites!

  4. My favorites are:

    10. Purple Dream ~Purple is my very favorite color. I love this picture.

    12. Love and Hope ~Two very special words. I remember when you posted this,
and I loved the picture then, and love it still. It's interesting and is
a symbol of family sticking together when times get tough.

    5. Lone Tree ~It's good to spend time alone once in awhile. It is there where
I think, pray, reflect, and dream.

I have to mention that The California Poppy is awesome too. That's my beloved state flower. This is such a pretty picture.

I can see why these are some of your favorites, Carola.

  6. You are incredibly talented. There is no way that I can even start to pick a favorite. I need to study them - there's a lot that I can learn from them.

  7. THey're all wonderful but I pick 1, 7 and 13, although 15 nearly made it a tie!

  8. Hi Carola, You have given us an exceptionally tough assignment. And, especially for me, since several of your favorites are from my favorite place … Yellowstone. Despite that, my top vote goes to #14. The way that scene is framed up is just exceptional. My second place goes to #11, Pink Glow. I can’t put my finger on it, but, like you said in your introductory remarks, it speaks to me. OK, third place … such a tough call … #13, California Poppies. I just love macro shots of flowers and this one is exceptional! Thanks for sharing all and letting us vote on the winners. They are all winners in my opinion. Happy New Year to you and yours. John

  9. Beauty is, as they say, in the eye of the beholder. I think you'll find that everyone has different favorites for different reasons - there won't be a stand-out winner because technically your photos are fantastic! That said, I had my strongest emotional reaction to 12 and 6. Third place was a tie between 1 and 4. If I have to pick, probably 1. But ask me on a different day and I'll likely have a different answer!

  10. They are all beautiful! My favorite is number 1. I love those thistles and with the mountains in the background it is just gorgeous.

  11. All beautiful photos, Carola, I love the Tetons so #1 is my #1 pick, #6 is my 2nd, & #3 my 3rd or maybe #3 would be my 2nd & #6 my 3rd. I love the all natural look of nature.

    They are wonderful to see.

  13. This is so hard! We can't pick them all? LOL! I will pick Number 1, Number 2 and Number15, but I have to say, this was hard!!!
(Carola, thank you for the comment on my blog. I didn't paint over them, but that is where I just started from, so they look different now! They weren't "complete" in my soul. When I show the finished painting, that you like and if you still like it, let me know, ok and if you don't like it as much, no problems! It's on a 10" x 10" canvas.)
    Big Hugs!

  16. 14, 12, 10 - in that order. I love your idea of a favorites folder for each year. I'm going to implement that immediately! Thanks for the inspiration, and for sharing your beautiful photos all year long.
