We are a LOTR family - everyone has his or her favorites. Kaefer likes Galadriel, Arwen and Legolas; the Geek loves Arwen (of course); and I adore Aragorn, Eowyn and Sam. We quote parts of the book (or the movie) all the time and enjoy "speaking Gollum" - Hobbitses and pocketses. Precious.
It came as no surprise that Kaefer dressed up as Galadriel this Halloween. She sewed the cloak herself (she needed 6½ yards of fabric for that) and the Geek made the head jewelry out of copper wire. I made comments...
Here you can see the entire cloak. If you like you can look at the "real" Galadriel (aka Cate Blanchett) and compare (I'm biased here, so don't ask my opinion.
"May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out."
Beautiful photos!

Kaefer is beautiful. You must be so very proud.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite LOTR characters were the Ents. I mourn (still) that the Entwives were not found.
Your daughter's costume is definitely something to adore! The fact she made the cloak herself adds to its uniqueness and, I totally like it!
ReplyDeleteI didn't dress up much this year, but made crocheted little cat ears for myself :)

Love the cloak! Wow! Amazing! Isn't that language so cool. I love it! Take Care ;o)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful young lady! The cloak looks perfect on her. My husband has all the Lord of the Ring book set but I never did read them – I am not into fantastic literature at all – but I hear that people really loved those books.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter looks lovely. One of the women at the LYS where I knit is so into the story she made a "Hobbit sweater", green with 13 orange buttons (for each Hobbit I think) and a ring hidden in the collar. I don't know much about the story myself but the sweater was really pretty.

In my totally unbiased opinion your family did a marvelous job of recreating the original costume - but your young lady is far fairer than the original!
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed with all of this...especially the copper-wire head-dress. Kaefer couldn't have chosen a bettewr costume!!!
ReplyDeleteHow can you not love LOTR and all the nuances of the elves, the Hobbits, the language...ALL of it. Makes me want to get the movies out again. The scenes with the elves and the Enya music just melt me!
She looks beautiful! What a wonderful job on the costume.
ReplyDeleteShe's lovely. My mom and I have favorite sayings from the LOTR too and are known to mention the "second breakfast" and "Why can'ts we have no meats?!" when we're hungry. :)
