New Pictures of the Baby Owls
Last Wednesday, when Jo and I walked around the lake again, we, of course, had to check on the baby Great Horned Owls again. This time, Mama Owl was sitting on the nest - she had just fed her babies.
The Dad was sitting in the eucalytpus across the path and observing everything. I don't know whether you can see in this picture how he is eyeing me while I was moving below the tree to get a better view of him:
Then last Saturday, the Geek and I went and this time Mama owl was sitting next to the nest. It was obviously pretty boring for her - can you see her yawning?
She was very tired and slept a lot, and later she actually moved up the branch to her usual spot. The babies settled down to sleep as well.
Soon, they will leave their nest. They're already loosing their white fluff and spreading their wings.
oh my gosh! they are growing sooo very fast! do you know how long they actually stay in the nest?
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are fabulous!!! I've not seen anything like this before and those eyes - gorgeous. TFS
ReplyDeleteHi Carola-are those baby owls living in a tree in your garden? How cute are they??? How have you been? I haven't poopped over here in a bit...are you taking any classes right now? Or just relaxing for a bit? Totally know what you mean about the Princess Di thing. It was just crazy all the press and the way they hounded her. I hope it will be different with Prince William.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE owls, we get 'tawny frogmouths' nesting in our local trees, I only recently found out they aren't owls LOL, but they seemed 'owl like' :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing how quickly they're growing. Love this little documentary!
ReplyDeleteAwesome photos!!! I hear an owl at night around my house but I've never it. The bunny population, however, has decreased.
ReplyDeleteHey Carola, how exciting! Gorgeous shots of this little family.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting these. I know you'll always love having a record of them, and they'll be gone in the blink of an eye.

It is just amazing how fast they are growing. This has been such a fun thing...to follow along with you and watch their progress. Soon, I guess they will be flying off.
ReplyDeleteGood grief haven't they grown! Waht marvellous pictures - what a privilege to have wildlife like that to view.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful for you — and for us — not many people get to photograph baby owls growing up.
