i love all the snow and ice holes, and of course i love the tree hole, but that sandstone formation is gorgeous!
i'm still hoping to drive xcountry with my kids to yellowstone one of these days.
These photos are lovely. Nature right under our noses, through the eye of the artists lens. The 'gaps' in each are actually what created the 'whole'.

Lacuna sounds lovely the word conjures up images like yours: Yellow Stone #1 and the Glacier are my faves.
I loved the frosty morning pics too especially the frozen vessel of water, when you get a weather change that promotes beautiful pics you can't stop shooting no matter how cold! We had our first snow this morning everywhere is white over. I'm off to get my wellingtons on!

Wonderful photos, every one of them. I hadn't heard of lacuna so had to consult my dictionary which says 'a gap or missing portion' - your photos show this well.

your photos are stunning! each one further explains LACUNA... how do you store all your photos? perhaps you could post your process for the photographer new-bies, like me! I struggle with organizing my albums...

Oh my god Carol dear how could I have not commented on your gorgeous post for weekword?!? I swear I looked at it several times and had so much fun thinking about old trips to Yellowstone and such *face palm* Well do forgive me for the late response, I adore the pictures you put together as a nature nerdo, and have not seen Slick Rock in Utah since I was a preteen and my parents dragged us all over the Southwestern U.S. I saw so many amazing natural landscapes on that trip and have spent years of my adult life trying to get back to those precious spots of beauty, though I know my 12 year old self was a terrible little wretch to be around when I had the chance to enjoy it the first time. Thanks for playing and bringing back great memories :)

i really love the colors of the yellow stone photo. i love them all really. and the thought that one crazy word could inspire it all.
Oh Carola...I love these pics and I love the "gaps"...I think the analogy to life in general is very apt...it is all those "gaps" and holes that make us who we are, that make us fully whole and make us resilient, unique, strong.
We are busy looking for a place...We are actulaly staying at the Officer Quarters on the Marine Base at Miramar so it's much much better than ahotel...2 large rooms, a kitchenette (but no stove) about 5 playgrounds within walking distance...I should stop complaining!! But still can't wait to get a bit settled! xxx
