Okay, so this is what's on my work table:
I'm working on the St. Nick's presents for my neighbors. In Germany, all the children put out a shoe on the evening of December 5th, and during the night St. Nicholas comes by and fills the shoe with sweets that the kids find in the morning. After we had moved here, I introduced a slightly altered version into my neighborhood, leaving some kind of German sweets at my neighbors' doors. This year it will be a little bag filled with sweets plus these bottles with cocoa powder and marshmallows in them. The bottles are Starbucks Frappuccino bottles.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea for St Nicolas! I am going to visit my daughter in Germany at the weekend so I will tell her and show her what you made. You get extra celebration days now with Thanksgiving, St Nics and Christmas! Not just Christmas as in England. Have fun x
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has Advent Calendar events, which I will share. Participating houses are given a day in December and put the number in their window. The neighbours all come round on your day for treats and Carols. I have to make English mince pies to give out and I have to sing the carols! I have also made some peace angel paper cut outs to share ( I showed them last week and gave the template) I will blog whilst I am there so keep looking.

ReplyDeleteOh poop... I went and took all my Starbucks bottles like those to the recycle place a couple of days ago!! Typical... You are so sweet, visiting me twice in one day!! We have Dutch friends and they do the shoe thing too... I love your version!!

I'm in the UK and we used to have German neighbours who around Christmastime very kindly gave us a little box full of homemade cookies. They were the best (the neighbours and the cookies!!), but unfortunately (for us!!) they moved back to Germany.

Das ist eine wunderschöne Idee, die Beschenkten werden sich mit Sicherheit riesig drüber freuen. Ich habe heute Weihnachtszucker selber gemacht und auch ein Glas befüllt - muss ich nur noch verschönern, noch ist es "nackig".

ReplyDeleteI would be very happy to volunteer to drink more Starbucks Frappuccinos for you (sadly they don't do them here in the UK). The contents sound like what we call "Snowman Soup", which we make for the godchildren, and add a candy cane to stir.
