Earth Colors Challenge

Recently I was going through a box with some of my pieces and found a few that I had never shown here, for whatever reasons. But since we have Nicole's Sunday in the Art Room, I feel comfortable showing them here. If I remember correctly, this was inspired by Laly Mille's "Color Challenge" which is part of her "Mini Abstracts" Workshop. I had done a couple of those mini series (green, abstract, and imaginary landscapes) and for this series I had chosen earthy colors. I thought since I love earthy colors this would be relatively easy and quick, but as is so often the case, I was kidding myself. These four little pieces I created in September 2023.

The substrat is four 6x6 inches watercolor papers that I collaged with different papers that I then covered with a thin layer of watercolor. On each piece I used the same papers. But since I'm not really into abstract painting, I only created one abstract piece using a few buttons I had.

For the others I chose some pictures that I had cut from magazines and added them to the pieces.

The following one is my favorite.

The Kestrel in the picture reminded me of the sweet Kestrel we had seen in Kaysersberg in Alsace in 2022. Even the bricks are similar.

Isn't he (she?) super cute?

  1. My sweet, dear friend. I don't know why you have never showed these art pieces and would have any kind of trepidation. THEY ARE STUNNING!!!!!!!! First off the use of earth tones on each one is perfectly executed. The shapes, textures and light bring depth to each layer. I absolutely love these. Thank for sharing them with SITAR and have a lovely day.

  2. After clicking, I always know that I see something beautiful. A landscape, a tree, a rock, a lake, a bird...
If not them, then you gift my eyes with your works.
Today we were at a painting exhibition, the painters of my town immortalized spring on canvas with brushes and paints, so that it will last a long time.

  3. Earth colors are one of my favorite pallets, Carole, and these images are lovely. We have kestrels in our area, and I am thrilled when I see them.

  6. I like your use of earth tones very much, and the individual photos at the centre of each piece. The small line of golden "gems" is inspired!

  7. I think that every morning when you wake up, Carola , the talent fairy descends to sprinkle creative powder on you, and you sally forth the whole day and make beautiful things, from carefully crafted prose, to wonderful food and art of every kind. We are all quite envious. The similarity between the kestrel in your art piece and bird in real life is remarkable. I suspect that these juxtapositions are only visited on those sprinkled by fairy dust, so you are assured of such bounties for the rest of your days. Enjoy the week ahead. Hugs, hugs and more hugs - David

    Hug
